Default style of play in cash games ...

I've had 135$ last weekend and this week, I'm down to $80.
I had won 85$ from a $4 NL 180 men tourney and the rest from 2c 5c cash games.

I've playing a lot of 5c 10c cash games lately and they seem to be killing me.
    My question is ...

In cash games, is it still correct to play tight against loose players and loose against tight players?

I ask this because I'm good when I play tight against loose players but I seem to make a lot of mistakes when I play loose. Almost everyone in those games seems to be looking to trap and "u have to play loose against tight players" theory doesn't seem to work very well

    Any advice?

    P.S
Is it possible to be good at both tourneys and cash games? I think i'll waste less time if I just concentrate on tourneys

You are right in a sense. Yes, I'd bluff more against a tight player as it becomes painfully obvious when they have something and yes I'd bluff less against a calling station who never throws anything away.

The key I think for cash games though is aggression. At the limits you mention, it will be full of loose passive players, this is a gold mine for the tight aggressives. They will play far too many hands preflop so when you come in, raise to charge them the maximum and force them into mistakes.

Don't play too loose, have a set range and deviate slightly depending on those at the table. The other key is position, try and play as many pots against these guys in position, it just makes it so much easier. Probably the weakest part of my game is I play too many pots OOP and get myself into trouble, something I'm working on at the moment.

As for the tourney/cash game thing, yeah it is possible to be good at both but alot of people find that they are suited to one or the other. Personally I'm more suited to cash but it took me a good year to find that out.
For Free Money, Rakeback and some 6x Ongame bonuses, I recommend PokerSource.

I recommend Cardrunners for superb poker coaching. It was honestly the single biggest improvement in my game signing up there! Sign-up fee might seem steep, but it pays itself back within weeks.

thank you for the in-depth reply ... I'll definitely follow your advice
another question is ... if you are playing online, do you play a lot of cash tables at once?

I might be really stupid for asking this but I did really well when I was playing just one table at a time and I'm losing money prolly because I'm playing like 3,4 games at once

lol, I made a thread about this a while ago about how bad I was at multi-tabling.

It's a case of practice, really. If you are used to one table it becomes very easy to make mistakes when playing more. My suggestion would be to get your game to a level that you are consistently winning and then bring in more tables slowly.

I use Poker Tracker and a live display so I get all the stats on the table, that allows for playing more tables alot easier. At the moment I still only play 2 at once, that's about as much as I can concentrate on, I'll eventually move up to 3 at some point.

Another thing, if you have a bankroll of $80 I wouldn't play the 5/10c tables, 8 buyins is just not enough to cope with the swings. I would drop down to the 2/5c for a while to build it back up.

thank you so much for the replies ... you are very helpful ... I'm a little disappointed that I'm demoted to 2c 5c but I definitely agree with you

With $80, stay away from cash games.

I hate saying this, but $80? If your job+lifestyle can't allow you a bankroll of more than $80, stay away from gambling. If you want to play with $80 like people play Sudoku, Snake, or Air Hockey on their phones, go for it and have fun. Poker's a great game.

But in your spot. You shouldn't play anything more than $3 SNG's and $1 MTT's, though..

Alexxx... don't be mean. I think cash games are best for a BR like that. I have exactly $84 in my BR.. and I still to cash games and I think it's the most efficient way to make money (or lose it.. but hey, I suck at poker)!

Alex does have a point, cash games can be very dangerous with a small bankroll. But if you aren't a tourney player then that probably won't get you anywhere either, I'd mix both until you find out what you are best at.

As for the software, something like Poker Tracker or Poker Office is great. It will track every little thing you do when you play and when you get a large enough sample size you can really pick apart your game and find leaks you never thought were possible. If you get another program such as Poker Ace HUD (with PT), it puts the stats for your opponents next to them on the table in real time. This can help you quickly judge how people are playing, which is good for when you are multi-tabling.

I actually started with $10 bankroll and worked my way up through 1c 2c games.
I'm actually pretty confident in my poker skills and am not thinking about quitting it just yet, Alex. Thanks for the advice tho.

According to Phil Gordon's little green book, you have enough bankroll to play if you have about 15 x 100 big blinds so in my case
    5c x 100 x 15 = 75$ so I think I have plenty to play 2c 5c games

David, funny thing, I followed your advice and played 2c 5c tables today and I'm up 30$. lol thank you so much.

Do these softwares cost a lot? No free softwares, right?

    $55.

Me > Phil Gordon. That's not good for him.
