Ok in .25/.50 nl at poker champs, i get dealt big slick on the button, 3 people have called before me so I raise to 2.50 and everyone folds but guy before, flop comes 8,5,2 with 2 clubs on the board (my k is clubs) so guy bets 3, i call thinking he is trying to buy, turn comes Ac, so I got aces with k kicker and nut flush draw, i bet 4 he calls? turn comes a 9s. he checks I check worried he is slow playing an all in, he flips trip 9's he rivered. Unlucky for me, but I think I played it correctly to the end, any disagreee?

The flop call was marginal.

I have to disagree. IMHO you have 2 plays on that flop...you can raise him, or you can fold. I can't see any point in calling this bet.
As it was, you were extremely lucky to get the one card that actually helped you on the turn, and you bet it, but a pot-sized bet would have been better. For $4 into that pot, he's likely gonna call w. 2nd best, or an A w. a low kicker. His call was stupid, granted, but still...be glad he checked it down at the end there, because I suspect you woulda called another bet.

I don't disagree with the flop call (although I think you should learn a bit more about pot odds before just blindly calling) although I do think a fold or a raise woulda have been better. I don't believe a call is a horrible play, but if you think he's buying it, why let him get a free card? I think this is a big mistake a lot of people make. They call to "keep people honest." If you're going to make a play like that, go for the balls and throw more money in, then you'll acually have an idea of how far ahead/behind you are. The turn bet was horribly weak. You gave him a reason no reason to fold.

I love playing against people that can't release an AK on a missed flop (and you missed, backdoor to a NON-nut flush draw is no good)
If you count a club as a half out(which is generous), you're about 4.9:1 to hit a good card on the turn. You are getting 3.25:1 to call on the flop, so if there are no other factors, its clearly a losing play. I like a raise a lot better here since you have a good chance to take the pot down, or take a free card on 4th if you hit a club.
I think this has got to be one of those times you muck it and move on against a tighter or solid player, if he's pretty lagish you may want to raise. Calling seems terrible.“There's no sense in being precise when you don't even know what you're talking about.” - John von Neumann
