Default Poker Tracker Table Averages (BB/100)

Can someone explain to me when I overlay my PT stats onto a table I get some figures in the centre of the table titled Table Averages. Most of them are obvious, but I can't work out how the BB/100 for a table is calculated - or what it means? The table I'm currently on has an average of 77 BB / 100?

It just averages each individual player (i.e. totals their BB/100, then divides by the number of players).

With BB/100, if you have less than 100 hands on a person, PT "adjusts" the number to be over 100 hands.

Lets say you only have 20 hands on someone, and they won a big pot during that time worth 30 BB (PT BB being twice the big blind). This player has 30/20 (BB/hands). It will bring this up to 100 hands, sot now the player is running 150/100. If you have a few players like this at the table, it will heavily skew the average.

You can really only rely on BB/100 stat over a large sample size.

Thanks for that - I understand how it's calculated now. I still don't see what the stat gives us though? Even if we had a large sample of every player on the table, would this particular stat give us any indication on the state of play at the table?

Long-term profitable players tend to be better players, so a table with high BB/100 is likely to be full of "good" players.

That being said, I don't use it.

I don't use it either. You can customize your PokerTracker stats that are displayed through your HUD program (I use PokerAce HUD, I assume you do as well)

I usually go for Avg Pot Size, Aggression, etc. I also like to see the VP$IP number for the individual players as well.
