Or-Why I hate KQ in NL.
I have tons of excuses, but really this was terrible (it was past bed time though).
Players club tourney of Party Poker, only 25 paid and ~2250 entered.
Marm told me I played a really good game, but I didn't I really didn't even play, the chips just kind of fell in my lap, I did make a few moves and pick up some pots. But I could not miss early in the game. It was one of those where I shouldn't have folded anything. Hit a belly-buster with 23s and bust a guy with triple kings, a flush to 65s, a boat vs flush with pocket 2s, guys calling my QQ all-ins with 99 (happened twice). I totall I think I got QQ 4 times, KK at least twice, and AA at least twice.
We were down to about 60 when the ride was over:
Total number of players : 9
Seat 2: beavis69 ( $56043 )
Trny:9834721 Level:13
Blinds (750/1500)
** Dealing down cards **
Dealt to beavis69 [![]()
].
One fold UTG+1 limps, a fold to me, I am two off the button, I very seriously consider folding, but I figure this is a good position to steal, I raise to 5600.
It folds to the SB who pushes all-in for 13656 and folds back to me, 8806 to call. 23+K in the pot, very easy call.
He flips over AT and the flop brings A J 9 and only the slightest glimmer of hope then rags off.
The very next hand:
Seat 2: beavis69 ( $41637 )
Trny:9834721 Level:13
Blinds (750/1500)
Dealt to beavis69 [![]()
]
UTG+1 min raises, this could mean so many things, I call. We end up heads up. About 8300 in the pot.
** Dealing Flop ** [![]()

]
cjanms bets [4300].
I still have 38K left. I really don't know what the best play is here now that I got involved in the pot. A flat call doesn't seem right, a raise to 12K leaves me with 26k if I have to fold, and he has me covered.
What do I do on the turn if he flat calls and bets half the pot again on the turn?
So I went ahead and pushed, he had KK, I got no help, and busted out 59th.

Don't play KQ to a raise of any sort and if you do, hit the flop hard (at least 2 pair) or fold.
I have this tatood on my eyelids.
Played any other way KQ is the hand of death in MTTs as there's so many ways to get sucked out.

Yep, and if you have to play it for two pair it aint worth playing. Would have been a littel different if he had half the stack I did, getting mixed up with a guy that could bust me was stoooopid.

Ahh beav.... thought you werent gonna post these....
And you played ana excellent game... I think we figured you made it into the top 3%-4%, payday in any other tournament. 2271 entrants, and you made the top 50 i believe, jsut sucke they were only paying 25.
You played solid, keep a low prolife, aggressive when you got something poker. You play your solid hands hard, got out of the way when you didnt have it, and picked up the pots that were there for the taking.
Probably one of the best played MTT's Ive seen you do in a while.Last edited by Marm; 02-24-2005 at 09:03 PM.

More more I thought about them, especially the second one, the more I wanted some feedback.

I am not a big fan of KQ either. For starters, I very rarely call raises with KQ. Really, the only time that I do is calling a baby raise with KQs. However, if the flop comes Q-x-x, you still have to play it soft and baby raises nowadays usually mean AA or KK, so it's not a good spot to be in. What I love to do with KQ is limp and then hope to trap hands like KJ, K-10, QJ, etc. Early in multi's, increasing your stack by limping in with this hand with a board like K-7-7-3-8 because the big blind called you all the way with K-4 is a common way to build chips.
Regards,
Enrique
