I was recently reading an article in "Bluff" Magazine about SnG's. They talked to about four predominant SnG Players and discussed strategy. A reoccurring theme was "ICM" (Independent Chip Model) and how they used it. They all played in higher buy in games than I do. But I was wondering if this "ICM" was common and what people thought about it.

Independent Chip Models are at the center of SNG-math because you can calcuate the real money of folding v. calling/winning v. calling/losing along with, of course, folding v. pushing/taking the pot v. pushing/winning showdown v. pushing/losing showdiwn. It's your true risk v. reward mainly in reference to bubble play. There are a lot ICM calculators online that you can use to run simulations. I'd recommend subscribing to PokerXFactor.com if you're interested in SnG's. Sheets' lectures are the best resource for helping you understand the concepts of push/fold, bubble and HU play.
