I play exclusively big bet poker and as anyone who entered the PFO events may have noticed I can't play any form of Limit game. I have read Sklansky's books and have a rough idea of how the games should be played, they just tilt me like crazy when I feel I have no chance of pushing people out of a pot (i.e fold equity) and I end up getting frustrated.
Anyone who has succesfully moved from NL to limit games or who is succesful in both have any tips?

Learning Limit

I didn't have the net when I was on holiday for three weeks a year ago. I got PokerAcademy and used it to learn limit. I then cleared a few bonuses with it.
It added to my game - but I've not played it since.
It is a lot more about your cards.. In late I raise heavily with any old crap in NL..but in limit (certainly up to 1/2= 0.1/0.2 NL) you'll go to showdown so often that each bet is made for value. Position counts in as much as you get pot odds to call with anything with intrinsic strength with prior players.
You'll notice that in limit there is a "call" button.. This is an odd addition to the game that you will be unfamiliar with (you may have used it to call an all-in occasionallly in NL). In limit people actually use this a lot.....
I hope this helps...Last edited by xxdemexx; 01-28-2007 at 08:01 AM.

Lots of good rakeback options at http://www.rakeguard.com/?raf=KRE8R
KRE8R probably has about seventy college funds in his NL5 roll.

If you get rakeback, you NEED to know limit, IMO. When you're running bad or just don't feel right for Big-Bet games, sitting at some 6max limit games REALLY bring it in. HORSE is the best game for in-game profit+rakeback.
Re-read HEFAP. It's the limit bible, IMO. Read Hi-Lo Split Poker For Advanced Players and Seven Card Stud for Advanced Players by Ray Zee. These are your Stud/Stud8/O8 bibles along with the sections by David Sklansly, Chip Reese and David Hawthorne in SS.

I agree with Alex, if you get rakeback play limit.
A few things:
if you are a patient nit, play full table, if you like to "play" sit 6 max
best limit hold' em books, HPFAP and small stakes hold em. read both and play a combo style of each.
in full ring,
always raise from EP and play super-tight from there (TT-AA, AK, AQ, AJs) with the occasional small pair or small suited connector thrown in.
position, position, position. limit is the free card, check-raise, semi-bluff game
Always raise when first in from LP
If you're going to defend your blind from an LP raiser with a marginal hand re-raise most of the time and smooth call with your monster hands most of the time.
Best Omaha 8 books: winning omaha 8 poker and how to win at omaha 8 poker. I'm not a big fan of hi/lo split poker for advanced players, too many outdated concepts.
Almost all 7 stud books are the same IMO.Read my musings on poker and life at Online Poker Examiner, Poker Examiner, PokerNewsBoy.com, and My Poker Blog
