It really depends on how tight it is and the stacks at the table. As average stack with other average stacks and a passive big stack I would probably raise it up to 4k-4.5k. That way I am representing a strong hand but at the same time allowing me an out if someone re raises all in and another person calls before it gets back to me. I will survive the blinds and end up being a fairly short stack but I have a chance to get into the money. If only one person called. It would depend on the flop and if they raised I would probably end up pushing.

I would raise no matter what....
But I would only raise 3 times the BB to gain info about other hands, and to get others out, if no card higher than a J hits the flop with minimal straight or flush draws I PUSH VERY HARD!

the blinds and antes cost you 3750 a pass and you have 9500, ALL-IN! the pot is 3750 and you almost want a call with this hand, you have to double up. you cannot squeak into the money with your stack.
this is close to a no brainer all in.Read my musings on poker and life at Online Poker Examiner, Poker Examiner, PokerNewsBoy.com, and My Poker Blog

I Agree..
In those situations, I GUESS IWOULD HAVE TO AGREE, cause how many other hands like that can you expect to get, with blinds that high?

What's your goal?
If you're just trying to get into the money, fold. If 9,500 is an average stack with the blinds at 750/1500 and a 150 ante there's going to be 20 people gone in no time. Let attrition take its toll.
If you're not satisfied with just getting to the pay line, then you need to create some breathing room because even though your stack is "average" for the tournament field, you are in a short-stack situation in comparison with the blinds and antes. Therefore, you move all in here.

this is untrue because most people will be playing the same way, trying to snake into the money. If you're just trying to get into the money, fold. I disagree. If "most people are playing the same way" then your status as an average stack in the tournament field puts you in fine shape. There's 70 people left...having an "average" stack count puts you above the median for the tournament field because of the disproportional amount of chips in play that the tournament leader(s) hold in a mid/late tournament scenario. So if 35-40 stacks are below yours and you only need 20 to drop out to reach the pay line -- if that's your ONLY goal (and I totally agree with beavis here, it shouldn't be your goal, but plenty of people make that their goal for tournaments which is why I brought it up) -- then you can safely fold and feel assured of getting to the pay line with chips the majority of the time.
