    Default Sklansky's theory of poker questions

    It came in first and I gave it a quick read (will reread it more thoroughly at least once). The main thing I'm wondering about is how much to raise. The book does a great job of telling you when to raise, but it seemed to be written for a limit player (who didn't have a choice of how much to raise).

    1st: I understand the value of deception, but I'm hoping to find the "ideal" amount you would raise if you were playing against very weak players with no need for deception.

    2nd: I figure the raise amount will also vary with the situation. So what size raise do you make in relation to the pot when you are:

    * bluff-raising the flop
    * bluff-raising the turn
    * pure bluffing the river
    * have a decent/mediocre hand in early position on the flop (but one not likely to improve)
    * on river, after previously bluff-raising and now getting your flush/straight? (late position vs early position)

    Are there any books that cover this aspect of the game in more detail? I still have "little green book" on the way...

    Thanks

    As far as books go, one you might want to pick up is the book of bluffs by matt lessinger (sp?). That will help you out with the general plays you described.

    Are you talking about cash games or tourneys? cos there is a big difference in strategy between the two.
    For Free Money, Rakeback and some 6x Ongame bonuses, I recommend PokerSource.

    I recommend Cardrunners for superb poker coaching. It was honestly the single biggest improvement in my game signing up there! Sign-up fee might seem steep, but it pays itself back within weeks.

    If any book tells you the perfect amount to raise, you should throw that book away...

    Raising should ALWAYS depend on your position, your stack, other players's stacks, your cards (ofcourse), how much you hope to win with your hand (whether you want a small pot or a multiway pot)..

    I'm sticking to cash games for the time being. I don't like having my play forced by increasing blinds...
