Default Continue to play HIGHLY overrolled till better my cash game, or play the right limit?

I dropped down to the sad, sad NL10 recently because i realized i am more of a break even player then a winner at cash games so far. Most all of my BR is profit, but most of it came from MTT's or SNG's. Ive always played cash games tho, but havnt won alot overall from them. The last few weeks +this month are all dedicated to really learning them and beating them. I feel like im playing alot better in them latly and 2 days ago completly cleared out my PO database and started new.

Obviously i still have ALOT to learn, which is why im posting alot more in the H.A. section, so my question is, should i continue where i am till i can show myself im a winning player (5-10K hands would be good enough for me, even tho i know thats not many. But i play only 2 tables and on 3 sites, so 10K on stars is probably about a month for me.)

I have 54 Buy-ins for NL10 on stars. My objective is not to make a big profit, but become steadily profitable, so im looking at my win more in terms of BB then of $$.

Should i just keep playing highly overrolled untill i can show myself my 10K+ hands of winning poker, or play more suitable to my roll? (.10/.25 i still have about 26BI's)

Moreso, Am i not going to be able to learn anything on my current level?

I am finding I am a pretty good tournament player because I am aggressive and am not afraid to gamble. In a tournament this can help or hurt but as long as I have chips in front of me I am still alive.

That style seems to hurt me in cash games because when my chips are gone I am done. I stick to tourneys and SNGs online and am considering high limit stud because aggression pays off better in stud from my experience. Or it could just be I am a good stud player considering it has always been "my game".

Good luck with whatever you do.

I would say try higher stakes limit HE if thats your game. Higher stakes helps eliminate donks and limit helps avoid losing a big bank on bad beats and great 2nd best hands.

I dont think you're that highly overrolled. I believe the standard reccomendation is 30 buy ins for a known winning player. If, as you say, you are break-even/borderline winning player at cash games and still learning then having 40ish buy ins at your level seems sensible.

thats not that highly overrolled, since i started playing NL100+ games, i've stuck with the rule of only moving up permanently if i have 65 buyins+ for that level.

in any case, I think you should learn to play a "range" of limits, so right now ur range would include NL10 and NL25. IMO, as long as you have at least 20 buyins, you can take shots at the next level. Just discipline urself to move back down if u should lose money.

With your bankroll I wouldnt mind playing NL25 at all, the competition is probably just as easy. Just make sure that if u run bad/lose money that u move back down. Also, playing NL25 and bonus whoring wouldnt be a bad idea at all.

I would also recommend you to regularly play 5-10$ MTTs. UB MTTs are really good imo.

He doesn't multi-tabling, so $25NL wouldn't stretch it too much.

I'm just saying that you're making more money with SnG's, you should be playing those more often. The lo-BI SnG's have a better WR than micro-NL. If you go up to $25NL, the inevitable downswings of poker send you back to $10NL and it turns into an endless cycle. I've had that issue with 3/6 and 5/10 lately, not that I have any plans of playing 10/20 or 10/25. I'm just not maintaining a WR to make up for my withdrawals, so it's back and forth and back and forth.

    maybe you should start multitabling.

i became a much better player just by playing 3-4 table at once. you get super tight, rely on postition a lot and play better poker, i think.

it could be that you are just playing too many subpar hands out of position because you get anxious. i know i used to.

yeah.. if anything.. start multi-tabling the NL10 games... playing just 1 table isnt going to help u get much better imo, cuz ur just not seeing enough hands..

also another thing to keep in mind... the rake in NL10 and NL25 games is BRUTAL... in fact the rake in all micro games up to NL50 are brutal.... when the avg NL25 player stacks an opponent, he pays maybe 3$ in rake, and gains +25$... so thats 3/25= 12% of your winnings lost to the rake already... When the avg NL200 player stacks an opponent, they pay the same amount of rake but gain +200 instead (3/200 = 1.5% of profits lost to rake) ... see that big difference in percentages of your profits? so you could be a winning player, but might not even be able to notice it cuz u pay so much in rake in comparison to what your making at the tables.. It took me forever to get out of NL50 cuz the rake is soo bad. In fact, if it wasn't for bonus whoring i'd probably still be stuck at NL50. So what I really recommend is that you should start going bonus whoring. At the end of the day/week it helps, ALOT.
