Should I be topping up my chip stack every hand if and when I drop below the $100 buy in? Ive always just kept playing with the money in front of me, wether I be up or down, but the other day when I was playing on the same table as KidRed he kept encouraging me to rebuy for the $100.

Reloading in Cash Games - Should I?

If you sit down with $100 every time you join a table then you must believe this is optimal strategy, or else why not sit down with $50 or $75?
If you lose $10 in the first 3 hands why would it not remain optimal to have $100 infront of you? Each hand should be played on it's own right and you want to have as close to what you believe is optimal stack in play for every hand.
On a side note I picked up a tip in a Omaha book I read. I have started (especially in PLO) buying in with around 40-50BB to play the SB and BB before topping up to full stack on button. This means I have more chance of getting my whole stack in PF with a hand such as AAxx and reduce implied odds to my opponents. In Hold 'em it means you can get all in on flop with top pair/overpair and not get outplayed on later steets. A small edge but 1 we may as well use.

I just reload every hand. If I'm busy in another hand on another table, browsing online, or whatever, I might start a hand with 90bbs and not know it, but I like to always have 95bbs behind me.
That's what always confuses me about people who shortstack. I'd fuck up so much clicking "get chips" then clicking "max." or whatever. Even in limit games, I reload at 15-20BBs back up to 25.

hah, i didn't even see this thread, but in your AA 3 times post, i told you to reload. you only had $31 on the table and you picked up aces. that is the exact situation you don't want to be in. so yeah, reload everytime.

to reload or not to reload?
it depends for me. when i begin a NLHE cash game session, i usually like to come in swinging for my later hands. i start with the max and will splash around for a little while because i consider this advertising. i have found that when i take this strategy, i almost always get paid off bigger than normal when i hit a decent to great hand. after i feel my advertising is complete, i will normally reload.
in limit, if i am under what i would have to put in in an average pot, i reload. but in limit, normally i ride it out.
phil ivey buys in for $16,000 of $40,000 max in PLO but he normally buys in max for NLHE. limit HE he buys in for 20 big bets and omaha hi/lo 40 big bets. other pros follow suit for the most part. erik seidel buys in for $8,000 of $40,000 in PLO. i guess there are strategies but it seems like in NLHE, you need the max.Last edited by Puckertoot; 12-16-2006 at 07:57 PM. If you think you have an edge over the other players at the table (and I really hope you do, otherwise you should not be sitting there) then you lose out on +EV by not having them covered.
This means that there are cases where sitting full is less than optimal, i.e. 4 uberfish with 50 bb and 1 very good player with 100 bb. But for the vast majority of cases, there's really no reason not to sit with the maximum buyin.
