Down to 6 handed in a live tourney at a friends house. Top 3 pay, so we were not really close to bubble. He was button, I was SB. It was folded to him PF, and as I expected he raised to 150 (Blinds 25/50). I have 63 diamonds and decide to make a play, raising to 450. I have about 1000 remaining, he has me covered by about 500. BB folds and he calls. He has A8o.
My question is should he ever just call PF in this scenario? He told me afterwards that he thought i didnt have anything, but if this was true shouldn't he just have moved in? I think that this is an all-in or fold spot, but can just calling be the right move if you think someone is making a play?
Turns out I got the BB to lay down pocket 9s (he had us both covered). Flop comes A82 all diamonds, i move in, he call and my hand holds up (just in case you were interested).
