Playing a home game last night.
1st Pos - Stu
2nd Pos - Moz
3rd Pos - Al (roughly 10k)
4th Pos - Me (roughly 10k)
Blinds 200/400
PF
Everyone limps in - i limp in with JQ
Flop
AKT (rainbow)
Checked round to everyone
4th Street
3 (no flush draws)
Stu - Check
Moz - Check
Al - Bet 1600
Me - Raise to 4600
Stu - Fold
Moz - Fold
Al - Reraise all in
Me - Call
Al Shows 33 (trips)
Me Shows JQ (nuts straight)
River K
Al Has FH and wins
My question is did I play this right? Or was i just unlucky? Should i have raised preflop? Should I have bet at the flop. Should I just have called Al's bet?
It still hurts now but want to know if i did the right thing.

Unlucky indeed, even though I would bet the flop. Somebody had to get a piece of that, even if it is just a draw.

Should i have raised pre flop with so many limpers though? Or am i owrrying about nothing and look forward to the next game when that situation occurs again - as i would win (from 4th street) 3 out 4 times - if i slow played again?

PF, I don't know about a raise because i don't know how they play, but you could raise since your on the button.

Exactly!
I remember one time I flopped the Ace high straight I pushed from 1st position because there were so many limpers I knew I'd get called, and I did
I'm not saying u have to go all in here, 9 times out of 10 I wouldn't but you don't have to slow play an Ace High Straight as much as if u hit the straight with 67s for example, less chance of anybody having a piece of it!

Ok, here's what you do ! you were short stack ! calling pre flop with Qj isn't a bad thing to do,,you got the nuts on the flop...When u get a very good hand on the flop and you're in this position with short stack, at least bet a bit. By doing so, your opponent will think that you wanna steal the pot but when he calls and if he reraises you can go all in and he will either fold or call. If he calls, then tough luck if he folds you would have won the hand.

you're the button, so, you need to bet the flop. If they all missed you'll get no action by slowplaying anyway, this is the time to see if anyone has anything or wants to bluff at it. The best way to do this is by reopening the betting with a small bet, which will look like an attempted steal by you. with 1600 in the pot a nice bet of 400-600 will do the trick.
to answer your question, did you play it right? Sure, really can't fault your slowplay. Did you get unlucky? Yes. Could you have played it better (in a long-term thinking kind of way)? YesRead my musings on poker and life at Online Poker Examiner, Poker Examiner, PokerNewsBoy.com, and My Poker Blog
