No problem with the critiques - fire away. However I might point out that this is only one hand in about 30 at a table the critics know nothing about and a player they know nothing about. But seeing as how this is being analyize anyway (it wasn't my intention - I just wanted to point out an odd occurance with 2 guys from the forum) I'll provide some missing info.
The table was playing about 40-50% and had a fair amount of FPS going on so any min-raise preflop was suspect. 'Name Bing' coming in with the min raise was playing LAA and trappy from the first hand and had only recently lost half his stack slowplaying TP to a flush draw.
Smooth calling AK in the blinds is not a mistake in a tournament and there are enough books out there to support the play. I was not looking to get heavily committed to this hand preflop and OOP and saw an opportunity to trap Bing if I hit the flop. I knew he would bet regardless of the flop and would not be worried about me since I had been playing tight and stright-forward and I woud be playing from the blinds. The plan worked out very well except for one small detail - Bing hit 2 pair and I didn't. His going all-in for such a small pot was not unusal for a LA with a weak hand trying to steal and it was my intention to ck-raise him 3x whatever his bet in any case. My read on his min-pfr was pocket pair (quite possibly big); 2 broadway connectors or A-little as he had come in for 5xbb with A-Q once. Calling the all-in was for less than half my stack and I felt I had the best hand probably 80% or more of the time. My tuf luck and I never recovered from the hit as cards that were hard to come by before dried up completely thereafter.
The biggest critism seems to be not re-raising the min-raise pre-flop. To each his own but as ypsieast pointed out that would create a large pot on speculation of hitting a better pair than what I might be up against as well as tip off my hand. If Bing did slowplay a big pair like QQ or KK (or even mid pp) and I re-raised, he could have gone all-in preflop forcing me to fish or cut bait! With AA I was hooped regardless but I had one ace and the flop had another so AA in his pocket is significanly reduced. Going for a ck-raise on the flop allowed Bing to make a big mistake with a weaker hand than my TPTK. It was a good play imo! Just didn't work out as planned! Mr McJ followed the general advice of the critics and got no better results than I and unfortunately was eliminated with his loss. Two identical hand played 2 different ways and both surcomed to the low-end statistics - what is they say? Oh ya - "That Poker"
