Why not? You are right about this at the moment. I dont have anything better to do, so this should be fun...

I am a professional athlete
I find this hard to believe for some reason.

but who cares and it has nothing to do with this argument.
Thats funny, I thought I was the one that pointed this out.

It is dirty and I don't care. (e.g. any pro athlete in professional competition)
This is really funny. Do you use this same attitude in your "professional sport"?

You will have the last word if you choose. I will not post on this thread again and probably not again. I have tons of other stuff to do including playing poker.
No, please, I changed my mind on this. You definitely should continue to post here. Your poker "insight" should be very entertaining.

I would love to get banned. I don't care. do you...? flattering.
So you came on here and made this your first and only post? Interesting.

Quote:
I predict you enjoy the aforementioned.
Actually no.

Quote:
You admitted the validity in that this could possibly be a good move against some players.
Show me where please.

Quote:
I am also a very good player, but have no way to establish this, and really don't care.
Very good players tend to not work angles.

I have an extensive background in mathematics and was just wondering about the legality of the play.
And yet you still have to virtually cheat to win? Mind telling us what your background in mathematics is?

Did you think that anyone on this forum would respond positively about your post? I believe your goal was to inflame people and cause a stir, which you have done (and you say I don't have anything better to do ). Either way, I will stop responding to you.

You guys...you guys...chill pill please!!

This is surely a question of personal ethics and preferences.

Poker can be war but war isn't always won by brute force and nastiness. There is room for that but also room for slyness, deception and even some positive human traits. Whatever works for you.

Gamesmanship is part and parcel and whilst I wouldn't use superstar's tactics I have to acknowledge that if it wins then I can't complain. There are always athletes, card players, sports stars who 'bend' the rules and those who stick firmly within them. We often dislike those that are heavily into the gamesmanship aspect of things but if they win then it's hard not to have a grudging admiration for them.

Saying that....if I ever catch you doing that at my table it's the head in the vice for you superstar!!!

My disdain for the new local idiot is because of anything but grudging admiration, I assure you.

And this is probably the general thought on that type of play.

Grudging admiration if he beat you regularly on the poker table.

Disdain regarding the tactics he uses.

Not mutually exclusive.

Our local poker room is VERY restrictive (no discussion allowed AT ALL by ANYONE about the board, possible hands, speculating on a player's cards, or saying what cards you hold).

Despite this, I can't imagine it being illegal at our casino, let alone any other. You shouldn't worry about it. At worst you'll be warned not to do it if you are caught.

The big problem you'll have is pissing people off. It's customary that that particular statement actually be honest. However, if you value winning over being a "gentleman" player then go for it.

At my local casino, while this would be "legal" the regulars would make a note to take EVERYTHING you have. It is shooting a barely legal angle.

We had someone do something similar, the guy bought in for like 200 in a 2-8 spread limit. he left in less than 2 hours, totally broke.

Thanks. In particular to the last two posts. I'm was mainly interested in just confirming that there was nothing legally wrong with this move. I was also slightly interested in others opinions.

It's a single move in what is usually hours and hours of poker. I don't make friends in public games and generally don't associate with that type. I do like the raw competition of no limit hold em. I also like money, and I prefer to have people pay attention to ME when playing poker since I have not been able to read people in public games with any degree of reasonable certainty. This is a great way to get people watching me. Then I can make other plays.

But in general, I just fold tons of hands and pick my spots.

I'm a genious!
