I was listening to an episode of The Circuit with special guest Dutch Boyd and they were talking about an interesting situation that I wanted to run past you guys.
It's the first hand of the first day of the WSOP Main Event. You've paid the $10K entry fee to get in (instead of qualifying via satellite.) You're in the BB with AK. Everyone folds around to the SB who shoves all of his chips in but when he's doing this he accidentally flips over his cards and shows QJ.
First hand of the WSOP ME, AK vs QJ, do you call?

Hypothetical Question

If I am there playing to win I would call. I don't think I am good enough to turn down a 2:1 chance of doubling my money. If I was Phil Ivey I would fold.
If I am there thinking "Wow I'm at the WSOP" I would fold just so I can play for longer and enjoy the experience.

If I were hypothetically in the this situation I would have the bank to be playing in the main event, so instacall.
BB is t100
Preflop: Hero is UTG with :3d :5d,
Hero raises to t500

Joe Seabock was talking about how he had a bet with someone that if he asked 10 pros this exact question, the majority of them would call. Oddly enough, Seabok lost the bet and Gavin Smith agreed that he would fold in this spot.

that's a tough one... cause who would want to go out on the first hand... but if you could get all those chips right away, that would be sweet...

I would have folded too. I mean come on thats the whole purpase of showing ur bluff is for people to think you always bluff but when you actually have a hand few people will take you serious.

I'd call it. It's a no-lose situation.
If you win the hand, you've got an early stack (and it's something you need at the WSOP these days since there are so many poker neophytes entering it year in and year out just giving their chips away). If you lose...well, you're out early so have plenty of time to rustle up a good cash game to play on the side. There's more money in the cash games (on the average, seeing as how most won't cash in the tournament), anyways

I call then cry if I lose, if I win I yell out "Guess who's the chip leader, look out Chris Moneymaker."
Could god microwave a burrito so hot, that he himself could not eat it?

May or may not be you, though. Some guy at one of the other tables had quadrupled his stack literally before the flop even came down for the first hand at my table this year.
