Hope this helps...with rebuys at least.
I think rebuys are mostly a bad idea. Think about it like this:
- 300 people with $1000
- 10% lose the first hour, 30 players gone
- their money, $30,000 is divided among the 270 remaining players
- realisticly, it's probably divided among 35-50 players
I just believe that if you lose money quick, you need to just stop and wait for another day! Just my opinion though...
Also, I take a conservative approach to begin with. I watch people's betting patterns, body language, and what hands are actually shown.
Good Luck!

Every serious player that plans to win it rebuys immediately (you dont need to post blind, its 1000 or less) and plays quite loose so you have to rebuy too, so you can reach 4k when you double up.
I play every hand most of the times but if i am feeling tight or bored i play only hands that are SOOTED or that can make a straight. Of course we are talking about a typical crazy table..
Your strategy should depend on how much you are ready to spent. I spent about 61$ on average on ps's 11$ rebuys and i am winning a lot, mostly because of the huge amount of fish that just got lucky during the rebuy period but have no idea how to play. They are by far the favorite type of tournaments because they are easy.
If you are planning to play just one tournament though, maybe its not right to invest many money (just rebuy at the start, play tight, rebuy again 2 times if you go broke and add-on), maybe you get lucky and see 3 ppl move all-in before you while you hold AA.

I don't agree Vense, playing bad poker is never profitable.

It depends how confident you are on your abilities. I believe i ll make top 18 so i ll at least triple my money if i start with 20k after the break at least 1/5. You spent 100 to make 10k, with a very poor competition, rebuy tournaments are by far the most profitable game to play at least on ps.

It's not really bad poker, in the rebuy period your implied odds are so tremondous it makes it a winning play.

Yeah you play every unraised hand because you give 20 T chips to win a lot if you have a good flop. The betting is so wild after the flop that you always have odds to call the bb.
But even if you have a bad day with 10+ rebuys, you fill your table with money, so if you consider yourself the best player at the table, you are just giving them a loan.

OK, if they are unraised pot, it is one thing, but still, the majority of the hands are unplayable, but hell, I have played J3s in the right spot before.
You should be playing a sound game, if there is a lot of limping, go in with speculative hands, if there is a lot of raising, wait for you monsters.
You always have to play the odds, a rebuy just gives you back-up, but really a rebuy should not be played much differently than a standard MTT, becaue you can always buy in to another one of those.

VeNSe is correct and rebuys shouldn't be played like a normal MTT until AFTER the break.
Adding on is always good too.

Why? How are they different? Should you take -EV situations on in rebuys? Please be more specific so there is no confusion, because I am confused.
