Having a rough time of it past few days i think i got my problems narrowed down. I get impatient with my stack in tournys and start pushing.
So here is what i did. I concentrate through the whole tourny asking myself ....If i was at the final table of the WSOP main event would i do this.
here is todays results
2 small all ins against me i have 2nd stack at the table... still real early in the torny.
i am dealt 9/9 against the 2 all ins. its less than 20% of my stack to call them so i do. (maybe mistake but like i said i would do it at the WSOP) A guy behind me...the big stack also calls.
flop comes 9d/8h/6s
okay this is my 2 seconds of thought....if the guy was playing 7's behind me he has an open ended straight draw and i dont want to give him that. if he is playing any other pair i have him crushed.
I push all in to get rid of him or at least make him make a draw against me for all his chips.
he calls with A/Q of diamonds. turn ...diamond...river...diamond and i'm out.
Now.....i go and look at the calculator afterwards and did i have the nuts? no i didn't. but i had about 95% chance of win.
My question is this....this isn't about a bad beat story i am actually interested in finding out.....should i be going all in without the nuts and when i am this much of a favorite ....or should i ONLY go all in with the nuts.
BTW the tournament right before ...... i reraised a guy on about the 10th hand of the tournament with K/K....he had played all hands prior to it. he raised me all in and i called...turns out he had a/9 suited and pegged an ace on the flop. i realize that was a mistake. I should have shown more patience.
Am i this much of a fish? jesus criminy.....i try and put my chips in the pot with the best odds possible ....i just cant see myself waiting for the 4 of a kind or straight flush to get all my chips in the pot
thanks for any constructive comments

i would have folded the 9's preflop
however on the flop, you played it well by pushing all in. this is about as good of a spot as you will get..
with the KK, there is nothing you can do. you played it wonderfully and got unlucky. thats poker, get used to it!
playing either of these hands less agressively is HORRIBLE!
just keep picking your spots and trying to get in with the best of it

You should make those calls all the times. How do you think you made a mistake going in with Kings he had A9 wtf, you were the favorite. In the first hand that's just horrible luck.

.
the set of nines situation was sweet. you were favourite and the fact that he made his flush was just gutting. i mean you were 95% favourite i think anybody would have pushed it, in that situation!
the KK again is an all or nothing and calling the all-in was good play.
its an akward situation to be in because the kk are 67% favourite over the A9s.
if a business man said to you invest your house in my horse. he claims it wins many races. in fact its won 67 races out of 100 over the past 5 years. you could double your money. but in your mind your actually thinkin i've got to much to lose! because your house is important to you, you just say no. i can't afford the risk.
now imagine the tournament and the money you invested in it ,is your house and the cards you are delt are your odds. How important is the tournament to you? how important is placing in the pay offs to you? Would it be a pointless waste if you lost your buy-in? now you fold because you would rather play a good game of poker and win, than gamble like a prat and win!
i'm not saying calling is a bad play, im just saying it completely depends on the idea of can you afford the consequences!
