i tend to play more speculative hands from later position, because when you hit something big its easier to extract money.
on the contrary, when i dont have much, its easier to know if im beat.
hands like AQs become very strong on the button when nobody has raised yet. the chances somone limped with a better hand are slim, and the chances that somone will re raise off the blinds is also slim.
this is why in *some* games it is correct to raise ATs on the button, and fold UTG.
i could go on for a while... yeah, your position is pretty important when you are deciding what hands to play preflop.

hum...
a better question might be - do your cards matter if you have position?
Even at low limits you should be hitting blinds 25-30% of the time with a 70%success rate.
The last 1500 I have broken even on AA-JJ. (Just a few cracks). I'm still up over all @ 11bb/100 - just hitting blinds...
When it doesnt matter is when your set mining on the pennies...See me playing $10/$20NL like it was play money

I've been thinking alot about position recently as I'm getting back in to playing on a somewhat regular basis. I think I havent been giving position enough value in the past (may still not be). Recently I've been alot more aggressive pf from early postion to weed out marginal hands, obviously only with premium hands. Also if I'm re-raised by someone who has position on me pf its usually all-in or fold (unless I'm real deepstacked).
I'm also more likely to flat call a raise I might a 3-bet when I'm in position so I can force more mistakes on later streets when position is really valueable.
Also the free card play is money, literally.BB is t100
Preflop: Hero is UTG with :3d :5d,
Hero raises to t500

It's not ALL about position but you can definitely loosen up quite a bit from late position. Poker is a game of information and in position you have more information than the players that act before you have, that says it all.

I have a lot of thoughts on position. In all honesty, position doesn't decide the cards I play too much because I generally play cards regardless of position.
Position dictates my aggression level against certain opponents. Aggressive people in front of me and I don't have to build a pot for good hands and if they have a feeling of my overall aggression, I have to know who's gonna slow down for the sole reason that I'm behind them. I can exploit that with strong draws, 2nd/3rd pair, and such. Against people who are just aggressive regardless of their opponent or I have the read that they just don't have that read of me, I'm more prone to trap and there's where I want stronger cards than I would in front of them.
With tighter players behind me, I can be very aggressive depending ont he prior actions in the hand. I want to be the aggressor to do this. Behind them, I'm more prone to be more passive and decide to get aggressive on the turn whereas in front of them, I need to end the hand ASAP.
Just a few thoughts. I know more will pop into my head.
