I know we've had discussions before about when to stop playing if you're losing etc. Jennifer Harman had this on Full Tilt for those of you who may not have seen it. I would have to say she is one of my favorite players overall and definately favorite female player. Mentioed this to Alex in chat so I figured I'd post the article here. http://www.fulltiltpoker.com/proLess...sson=8&aff=104

I just finished Fischmans book and he also recommends stop losses. As does barry greenstein in his book. I have always been an advocate for stop losses.
There are usually reasons you are losing and when you are losing from bad beats alone it does fuck with your mind, so your decision making isn't 100%. if you are thinking anything but the current hand you are not 100% focused.
I like her point about a big loss affecting your next session, I find this to be true for myselfRead my musings on poker and life at Online Poker Examiner, Poker Examiner, PokerNewsBoy.com, and My Poker Blog

For limit games I definately use a stop loss though it is higher than Harman's 30BB, I guess because I usually am playing 4 tables. If I am down 60BBs I quit, unless the tables are full of uber donkeys in that case I just get a beer and sit out an orbit or two before returning. In normal conditions I just do something else, watch TV go out and hit some golf balls or read a bit.
I haven't really figured out a reasonable stop loss for NL and PL games, there have been times where I have blown through 5-6 buyins playing PLO without even thinking about it and other times where I go on monkey tilt after just losing 1 buy-in (overfulls losing to trips hitting quads usually does it to me).

I've never really used a stop loss for playing but I'm going to in the future. I'm starting to work into the 1/2 tables so not sure where to set it seeing as how I'll probably have 2-3 tables going with 1 at 1/2 for now and 1 or 2 .5/1. Maybe just set a $ figure instead of going off BB's? I mean 15 BB's at a 1/2 is 30 BB's at a .5/1.

You can't think of it as money and be successful Poks, you have to just think of it as bets. Losing 15 BBs is really easy to do especially if multitabling you can lose that in 2-3 hands, and playing short handed it can be even worse. If you are going to set a stop loss you need to set it at a reasonable level, say 40 or 45 BBs.

Makes sense but what level do I pick for BB's. 40-45 BB's at .5/1 or at 1/2? (Reminds me I have a hand from last night 1/2 I need to post later).
