Default 99 and TT in a tourney

How do you guys play those hands in a tourney? I tend to have problems with them.

I raise them rather often preflop according to PT->

    99 70%
    TT 80%

but when I get a call I'm usually in trouble postflop. If the flop is all low cards I usually make a half to pot-sized bet, get raised and don't know if I'm beaten (higher pair) or not. Similarly, if there's just one overcard I face the same problem.

Now I'm thinking of limping more with them in the future, what do you think? Also if you get raised later, will you call or fold?

I know the strategy will somewhat depend on table conditions, reads etc. so lets assume unknown opponents in an early or mid stage of a tourney. Also lets assume we're not desperate so we dont need to push etc.

Ok I found the passage in HoH that mostly answers my question, at least for 99 he advocates a 50/50 mix so I'm too high here

I see these as positional hands (given an average chip stack).

UTG by all means give it a call if its in the early stages of a tourney, late on I tend not to flat call here as you are more than likely gonna hit someone pushing with a short stack behind you (can be nice to trap an ultra aggressive if you have a read on his continuation bets tho).

Mid position depends on the people to my left and the prior action, if its raised before me I tend to fold. If theres no action and if I have folders yet to act I'll raise otherwise give it a call.

Late position ... pretty much the same but am more likely to raise regardless on the button or in the blinds when checked round.

I've had a similar problem but mainly in cash games with TT. I tend to give it a raise in middle-late position (obviously depending on reads on other players) but run into trouble on the flop far too often when an overcard appears (if i check i get a bet thrown back at me and if i bet i often get action and have to lay it down). i just don't seem to win as many pots with it as i think i should. i win alot of pots with JJ and don't have too many problems with 99. Am i over-rating or under-rating TT?

I appreciate i haven't given exact situations but say we are in an online cash game with unknown players with similar stacks.
