This was my first time playing Limit Holdem ($2- $4). I won a decent pot on this hand, but was wondering how corectly it was played. Thanks for any input.

I probably would have raised the flop, there were two spades out there and driving out the draws seems like a good idea. You had the nuts, but imo, they weren't too slowplayable.

I suck at hold'em though... don't listen to me.

Oh, and welcome to pf.org dude.

Thanks for the reply ( and the welcome !). That was really the answer I was looking for. In no-liit I would have defiently raised on the flop. I just called here so the original bettor of the flop would bet again on the turn (and then most likely call my raise too) and not be scared into a check-call. I was thinking of raising the flop to drive out the flush draws, but I didn't think anyone would fold for the 2 extra bucks, especially since they were still getting better than 4:1 pot odds. Limit can be much more complicated than No-Limit !!

Definately raise the flop. Definately with the nut straight until someone makes it seem otherwise. Very doubtfully will somone hit a full with those lowcards, except for a low PP, which is good that you called the 3bet on the turn.

I dont really know limit but if he raises the flop will he drive the flush draw out? If not, why raise and give away your strength and commit yourself? The turn was a bad card but if it was a face card he would had action even without the flopped straight with the way he played it.

Guys, you don't raise to drive out draws, you raise to cut their pot odds and force them to play incorrectly.

Its generally always good to raise with the straight. If he turned a two pair you will take a big pot off him. If someone wants to draw to the low end, you will gain multiple bets on the river if they hit. You don't really need to protect your hand, but you want the chance to play a big pot if someone else turned a straight or 2 pair.

Overall you played it well though.

There was only one guy left to act after him, he wouldn't have lost anyone raising on the flop- and he wouldn't be able to give them incorrect odds either. He may have gotten a few more bucks out of a raise on the flop though.

I had the same situation come up today, and did what you guys suggested. It semmed to workout well. The only thing I am not sure of is, if it is likely I would have got raised on the Turn and/or River (instead of just called)if I did not bet so much on the flop. Or, it could be becuase a flush hit and scared the other 2 guys. Can't compalin either way on this one. Check it out:

Unless you had 2 VERY good sessions, I think you are sitting with WAY to much money in front of you. Theres nothing really wrong with sitting with 150 BB's, but it serves no purpose. In fact some could see it as a tell. I always sit with 20-40 BB's, depedning on the type/nature of the game. That way my stack doesnt stand out against everyone else. Sitting with that many bb's may give the really observant player an edge over you, maybe an insight into your style of play.

Hey, If Caro believes how you stack your chips is a tell, why can't this be?

I'm not syaing theres anything too wrong with this. It's limit, theres no advantage to a big stack. IF there is no advantgae, and a possibility of a disadvantge, then why do it?

Its not worth it for no gain.
