Default Strong means weak, weak is strong...

We've all heard this and (although I haven't read it yet) seems like it's an underlying concept in Caro's book of tells from what some people have mentioned on here.

Anyway how much... if any of this do you think applies to online play? I've been wondering if you guys notice this to be usually true or not.

Also for those who have experience playing a variety of limits do you feel at certain limits more than others this is/isn't the case?

I use it all the time by jumping all-in PF with AA/KK or on the flop when I hit a monster at the beginning of tournaments.

People just aren't willing to believe some asshole like me would really massively overbet the pot with a strong hand (they'd be much more scared of a slow play), and they call with at times very marginal holdings.

I also use it in deciding to call river bets. Strong bets that seem uncallable are usually bluffs I can beat with my medium strength hand. Note that before I just put the badge on someone I need quite a bit of info on them, and will only do so in the late middle or later stages of a tourney. And note that if you do pick off one, the other observant players at the table have now seen this and you must be much more wary of their overbets.
Jason75: Ok, you check and the button bets 400. Now what?
    Beavis68: You play poker.
Jason75: Darn, I was really hoping for canasta. Maybe Gin.

I don't see it so much on PS as I did at pokerroom but you do get it a lot. People raising 2-3x BB with QQ+ but 7-8x BB with 55-TT (roughly).

It's a good pattern to pick up on if you find it.

    I agree with this ...

You gotta mix it up though and use it situationally

You have to be observant of how you are playing and your own table image as well as the playing styles of others.

Be aware of the failed and successful bets you've made and what a bet of that size is likely to mean to your opponent again.

I do think though you can give players too much credit for taking notice at the low levels.

I think this appplies much more to NL than limit. I try not to think about it in my limit game. I've found that most bets or checks are precisely what they are supposed to mean..until they prove otherwise of course.

in limit there is one particualr scenario that comes up online. you raise pre-flop and a blind or limper before you calls. Then they bet into you on a ragged or Kxx flop. Almost always means a marginal holding from a normal type player.

In SnGs beware the minimum raise - especially from normally aggressive players! I am doubly cautious if the miniimum raise came from an early position - it's begging for action!

Yes, being in the Blind with a hand like KTo and you (stupidly) called the raise, you have to bet into the raiser to kinda force the action so you can figure out where you are at. It really does give away your hand, since really strong or really weak is going to check there.
Marm is back, maybe. Been off for 3 years. Rusty as Hell.
