Again, ignore results (actually maybe not in this case...) but I'm still trying to learn how not to play past the flop......

Online with Alex's thoughts plus the turn gives a flush draw so I would make my move here on the Turn rather than get sucked out by an improbable on the river.

I'm no cash game player, but in a tournament I'd definitely raise the flop . . .
I'm not scared that he's going to outdraw me with an Ax . . . he's only got 4 outs to do so.
But I'd really like to inflate the pot on the flop so that the turn and river can pay off bigger. It also gives him a chance to get into a raising war with you if he's got an overpair.
If he calls or raises, then you can 1/2 pot it on the turn . . . it's tough for him not to keep calling these bets if he's got a hand like AK/AQ/AJ/AT . . . he'll think he's got 10 outs, when he's really only drawing to 4.
If he raised with 56 or A5 . . . well shit, life's a bitch sometimes. Gotta pay that off with top set.Jason75: Ok, you check and the button bets 400. Now what?
Beavis68: You play poker.
Jason75: Darn, I was really hoping for canasta. Maybe Gin.

no, because it is good, limping and calling a small raise is fine with that stack,

the pf play was good, you have implied odds here for teh set, given you and villians stack size relative to the raise

I have to say pre-flop isn't great. Effective stacks are less than half a buyin and you will not get it all in there everytime you flop a set. It's probably fine though considering the discounted price.
Raise the flop. If he's got a middle pocket pair we don't want him to slow down when overs come on the later streets and we don't want him nailing the straight with the ace.
