Who here takes notes on other players and what sort of things do you note down?
I have not used them before but I was thinking of making notes saying what people called and what they had so I can get notes saying that x person plays top pair aggresively, and y person goes all in pre-flop with A-rag.
Do people find these useful in making decisions at a later stage.

Now then Lamby,
Both PokerPlayer and WPT UK magazines this month have articles on Note taking and are well worth a read.
I find that I am taking more notes now than I used to. I think this is because I'm starting to notice more and that I'm taking a lot more notice when I'm not in hands. I usually start by classifying player (Loose/Passive, Tight/Aggressive) and then start noting how they played various hands e.g (Min-raised KK in EP, Slow played set on scary board). As I play more with a player I then start to notice betting patterns and habits (Always CB's 1/2 pot after Preflop raise, Likes to sweeten pot when on Flush draw).
I would never base a decsion solely on my notes, but they can play a big part.Last edited by Meldon; 06-15-2006 at 01:07 AM.

Do you continually update your notes or once you have a few on a player do you leave it at that.
How often do you find you are up against the same players?Bad Beat of the week 27/08/2006:

I'm playing Ladbrokes a lot at the moment and I'm finding myself up against the same players quite often because it's not a massive site.
I do try and continually update the Notes, but i also think that you can have too many Notes - at first noting specific hands is important, but over time these need to be used to discover regular betting patterns and these are gold. If players aren't committed to improving their game then their betting patterns will remain constant and you'll use them against a player, you'll soon find out if they start mixing up their play.

hey lamb, here's a link that might be useful to you if you want to start incorporating player notes into your online game.
http://www.tightpoker.com/player_notes.html
it's a pretty good example of how to categorize & note players. i usually put notes on people just in case i run into them again somehwere down the line & need a reminder on their previous playing patterns. i usually trust my current perception of them based on current observations, but knowing their betting pattern history, what sort of cards they play with (uglies or not), how much they raise pre-flop with monsters or pocket pairs, if they are tight/passive or loose/aggressive, etc etc helps me to anticipate their plays & adjust my game accordingly. anyways, hope that was helpful.
ps. noting the calling station donkeys & fish & putting them on your buddy list
would also be a good idea

I use the site notes to supplement the stats that PT/PAHUD give me.
Marm is back, maybe. Been off for 3 years. Rusty as Hell.

I always date my notes, that way if you play the same player some time in the future you can give him some credit for probably improving.

i use a note format similiar to the stuff on tightpoker..
basically i write stuff like:
PFR: AK, KQ, 78s, etc (PFR meaning preflop raise).. if the guy raises to a certain amount with a certain hand then i put that in too.. also the position taht he raises them in
PF: 57s, Q5o (PF meaning what he limps with preflop)
LCR: A5s+, KQs, AJ, 22-TT (LCR meaning he limp-calls a raise with these types of hands)
NOPFR: AA/KK (EP) - this means that he sometimes does not raise pf in EP with AA/KK.. instead he will go for a limp re raise.
NOPFRR: QQ/KK - this means the person doesnt RR pf with QQ/KK
PFRR: QQ+ .. means that this guy RRs preflop witH QQ+
Bets: TPGK, MP (3-4 handed for 1/2ps), FD (min bet) - this describe what he bets with and how much.
then i write stuff like...
PS CHASER - meaning he will chase a FD, OESD, INSD.. even if someone bet the ps into them.
PSER - meaning that he will bet at flops with anything as long as its checked to him
BSER - meaning that they will blind steal often
