Signs, signs, everywhere are signs!
I spend nearly all my time when I am not in a hand either analysizing the players at the table or taking notes on their play. But I have two problems...1) I write narratives that are WAY TOO LONG (I need to use a system like that on tightpoker.com), and 2) I don't always pay attention to my notes! The notes that I find most helpful are those that tell me how passive/aggressive a player is AFTER the flop and how often they bluff or c-bet. But again, the note is only helpful if I actually read and believe it (like when I reraised allin on a player that I had noted would only raise with a monster hand....OUCH).
BTW, if I know someone is a compulsive bluffer, I will note it so that I can let them do the betting when I flop a good hand. This is a great thing to know that can pay off big.
I also note the game that I am in, both type and limits. I noticed a player with notes from a NL25 game playing in a NL100 game and was able to take advantage of the fact that he was playing with "scared money".
