Since I have been plugging along playing limit, I thought I would play a little NL for kicks tonight... This was only about the 15th hand at the table, and these guys were a real class bunch.. I had been re-thinking the short-stacked theory of no respect, so I bought in for $4 and was going to see if I could get no respect. I set this guy up pretty good 2 hands in a row after I showed a stone cold bluff and bet him off a good hand and then 2 hands later I raised 4BB PF with AQ and got him to call with A2o and he called a 20BB bet on an AQ8 flop! I'm sure he was looking for a little revenge and thought I was a total donk... Would any of you tried to play this hand with this info any different??
PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $0.10 BB (5 handed) CP hand converter
Button ($9.25)
SB ($7.70)
BB ($9.60)
Hero ($5.70)
MP ($4)
Preflop: Hero is UTG with,
. MP posts a blind of $0.10.
Hero calls $0.10, MP (poster) checks, Button raises to $0.2, 1 fold, BB calls $0.10, Hero calls $0.10, MP calls $0.10. Good implied odds to hit my set with buttons min-raise, no?
Flop: ($0.85),
,
(4 players) So, I hit my set with overs on board, exactly what I wanted
BB checks, Hero checks, MP checks, Button bets $0.4, BB folds,Hero raises to $2 A 20BB CR? Alarm bells should have been ringing!, MP folds, Button raises to $9.05 Exactly what I was hoping for! , Hero calls $3.50 (All-In).
Turn: ($15.40)(2 players, 1 all-in)
River: ($15.40)(2 players, 1 all-in)
Final Pot: $15.40
Results in white below:
Hero has 4c 4s (full house, fours full of jacks).
Button has Kh Kc Dumb ass min-raises on the button with KK????? (two pair, kings and jacks).
Outcome: Hero wins $11.85. Button wins $3.55.
So, by buying in short stacked I cost myself 35BB which is pretty big in BB terms, but on the other hand did I net more on this hand because of my earlier play and the whole "he's a shorty, he cant really have anything" mentality?? I'm going to try and do more short-stacking for a while and see if the same kind of play continues..
A fitting end to a good night, up $300 from my SnG play and a nice MTT cash after that..

i was thinking about this shortstacked, no respect shit the other day wondering if it would really work... Personally i never do it. The reason is that when hands come up like this i don't get paid off in full, i'd rather be a larger force at the table, i'm looking to bust the guy with more then the max buyin at the table and i find it easier to pick up the smaller pots.. There are also ways to gain disrespect at a table with a larger stack by playing very aggressively and loosely...Part of my game is to attack the short stack, they have less chips, which means they have less plays in there arsenal. I feel the un-won money on these types of hands probabley in the long run out weighs the smaller amounts of money made by playing with a short stack.

I dont think he was ever laying down KK at $10NL, probably not even if an ace flopped.
