I'll have a think about this a bit more. I think it's possibly unnecessary at this point as others have said, however.....

I love the way that you gave yourself 4 chances to win the hand. 2 preflop, one on the flop if he folded the flop and one if he called and you hit.

If you'd have taken it down I think it would have been an excellent play, the only question for me being, was it right time? As I say I'll have a think.

to back up my point and the point of everyone else who posted here... let me first say that there was no chance of getting a fold from the CL regardless of what 2 cards he had in his hand... big stacks early on in tournaments are WAY too loose and "can afford" to call raises and will play an insane number of starting hands... this is what gets them into trouble in the long run (theres a reason why no day 1 CL has ever won the WSOP ME) fold that hand preflop and... the motto of early stages of tournaments... "save your chips for a better time"

Okely-dokely.

Yup, too early for this (or your stack was big enough to make it unecessary). I think you call his reraise. He has a hand of some sort so you are getting paid if you hit and he has the stack to pay you with.

Your rereraise commits you to pushing the helpful flop, had you only called I think you could have taken the card and perhaps survived. I don't mind losing half my chips in this kind of situation in an attempt to double or win a decent pot, with some applied aggression or a coinflip you can get back to where you were and the benefit of moving to 15-18k chips and this point would be huge.

Wrong time for the play, I still love the aggression though.

I agree here with Rex that you have to push this flop, given the prior action. I'd rather go down on a shitty bluff than struggling with 7 blinds for half an hour because I was playing like a pussy and going all in with 5 blinds holding a KJ or something.

Heres my two pennys worth.

Pre flop:

I like the steal attempt; why not? You've got a tight image.

With the re raise I smell either a good play or a good hand and you can give the player credit for both. I probably just call (8,400 chips left still looks workable on this table) and lay down under pressure unless something good happens on the flop.

The re re raise (with what is not a strong holding) depends on whether you are prepared to go all in with this hand to get anything from it after the flop.

Flop:

Having raised and called pre flop you may still get a check on the paired flop from the villain. If not a check then I would expect a tentative probe bet. You now want drawing cards. The question here is do you take the next free card or raise to get your two cards at good value (or better win the pot right there).

If I'm playing with an average chip stack then I take as many free cards as you can. If short stacked then raise / reraise to try and get back into contention.
