Default T.O.O.

I'm kinda dubbing this move the Target Of Opportunity Check Raise. I think it was Pok that had a similar play while ago. This is not a set play, but one that falls into your lap. It requires the right players to be in the right spots and doing the right things for it to work.

MP1 Was Very passive, (1% PFR, 0 Agg), very loose PF (42%), but very tight Post (18% WSD, and he mainly made that decision on the flop).

CO was very sLAA (25/12/2.8 ish) So I knew he would be making a continuation bet regardless of his holding.

Yes, When the PF action had settled, I realized, flop dependent, that I was in prime spot to pull this off.

Default CRing second pair can have it's successes....used sparingly.

The way you have described the CO...I would have expected him to either RR you on flop or raise you on turn if he had the queen. So, given that he didn't, I like your play here. I think CRing second pair on rare occasion gives some variety to your play and keeps the donk's guessing!

I did it a few days ago (NL25 Holdem) against a very loose-aggressive player, but had no idea my opponent had hit top and bottom pair on a board of K-T-6....I had ATs. The ten on the turn gave me trips...I made a smallish bet (acting concerned about the board pair) and my opponent raised me w/ his K6s. I called (now beginning to worry about a FH if he held KT or even T6, which would not be beyond him). The river was an ace giving me the FH....I pushed the remainder of my stack. He made the call since he now had great odds and was hoping that he had the best hand.

After the hand another player commented on the size of my 'nads for check-raising w/ only second pair. But I figured he would raise any bet I made and the CR might give me more information about his hand. If he had RRed after my CR on the flop, I would have folded this one.

So, as you stated, Marm, used at the right times, the second pair CR can work. BTW, I don't think I could have made that bet on the river. I'd worry that anything he would call with would likely beat me and a raise would really piss me off. But who knows, he may have folded a weak pair of queens!

The fact that the sLAA simply called, the flop is only telling if and only if he only calls the turn. This is the price you have to play when you get aggressive with a sLAA. I like that you went with your gut and fired the second bullet on the turn. The flop and turn won you <8 bets.

you probabley got paid off max for that hand...if you had raised in ep he woulda probabley only just called your one bet to hit his flush, the check raise also gave him better odds to go to the river. good stuff...

Exactly, if he had capped, and knowning he's actually got some logic to his plays, I'm done. I call on the odds to spike a 9, but I'm not putting anything else beyond that.

Well, in that one, it took us a while to realize what you had been trying to do without knowing it. Thanks to that hand, I was properly prepared to make this play.
