your stack divided by blinds and antes for one round.

this number should determine what kind of tournament "mode" you are in. 10 or below is typically all in or fold. 30 and above, the world is your oyster

I misread the initial thread. If the M is 10-15, I'll raise with:

AA-99
AK-AJ,
AXs
T9s
78s
67s
56s
45s
T8s
79s
68s
57s
46s
58s
47s

My Q will be in the 0.6 place at worst or the 1.5-1.6 at best.

This is all suppossing that the people with more chips than me at the table are pussies, though.

Say you have 6000 chips and the blinds are 200 / 400 with an ante of 40 and you were six handed then:

M = 6000 / ((200+400) + (6 * 40))

So M = 6000 / 840

M ~ 7

It basically means that you have enough chips to survive 7 orbits of the table.

As your M gets lower (say around 8-10 and below) then you are under more pressure to make a move, whereas if your M is over 25 then you can afford to take your time and wait for good hands.
I do this a different way by looking at my stack as opposed to the average chipstack.

This gives 3 modes of play: (ish)

Average stack and above - keep doing what I been doing
Below average stack - look to make a few more moves
When a double up doesn't get me back to the average stack - fold or all in mode

with all this stress about the positions my ideas have been a bit frayed so if someone could please clear this up...

Is the only advantage why you'd play worse cards in late position that you get to see what everyone else has done and you would only do it if you thought they show'd weakness?

Thanks

I'm sure Marm would say "do a search", but I'll give you the cliff notes:

Reasons to play tighter in EP:

You have more hands to worry about behind you. If I dealt you 66 UTG, there's a much better chance that someone has a higher pair than if it foled around to you on the button (with only 2 hands remaining to act).

So you can more profitably open pots with weaker holdings late than in early position.
