Two losing hands
I'm CDO. It's like OCD, but everying is in order just like it should be.

Hand 1 you know your mistake. Other than entering the pot you did everything else fine.
Hand 2 is just one of those things.
Hand 1 would lead me to ask myself if I am forcing things a bit and making a few too many loose limps hoping to hit a miracle and get it all back in one fell swoop.
Now lets see your 2 best hands from todays session.

The KJ and 55 hands show a problem. If you're gonna play a marginal hand from EP, RAISE IT!!!!!!!!!! Take control of the hand, if you have to showdown a winner then you can tighten up from EP and they'll call you with junk because they've seen you raise KJ and 55 up front. By limping you are telling them "when I raise I have JJ+ or AQ/AK), when I limp i have a small pair or suited cards"
Repeat, if you are going to play a marginal hand up front RAISE IT. and then use the results, good or bad, to your advantage.Last edited by Steve Ruddock; 06-02-2006 at 01:34 PM.

Hand 1 you limped in on a hand you know you shouldn't be playing and let someone else see the flop cheap. Anything can happen from here. You have no idea what he has .... he has no idea what you have. Classic case of being in a situation you wouldn't have been in had you played your pocket cards correctly.
Second hand ... crap happens ... much like the beat you put on someone with your pocket 5's best hand.
Back to basics and don't chase the victories ... they will come. Don't bolster your bad luck with bad play.

KJs is marginal... with the proper table this is a good play, but the .5/1 at prima is not that type of table... I think you probably should have folded. HAd this been paradise or VC where the FE is much higher, limping with marginal hands PF is perfectly fine.
In this case, it is so marginal that KJo i fold instantly, but KJs I will think about.....
And how is the 55 hand a beat??? He probably correctly limped with 55, and hit his set. He got paid. HE got paid well. He got paid by a fool who couldn't think beyond his own hand. calling that a beat is crap.Last edited by Marm; 06-02-2006 at 01:26 PM.

I disagree that you "shouldn't be playing" KJs.
But I agree with Steve-O that it should be raised.
KJs isn't that much weaker than AJs.
If you flop top pair with a K, only two hands dominate you, if you flop with a J only one hand dominates you. Yeah, you do have to dodge an A, but once the flop is out of the way odds are on your side.
The call isn't loose, it is weak.
Is the pre-flop action right? how did the BB fold?
the turn play is player specifc, what would he C/R you with?
you didnt improve on the river and the pot is fairly small, do you will this 12% of the time?

Marm, why are you being so hard on him? He is already kicking himself.

I couldn't agree more. I went through a 3 month span, where I NEVER limped in the first three positions. I got swingy because I had to follow it up, but the trial and error worked and I understood my tendencies and my opponents' a lot better. (Hence, my "AJ! Go away!" feelings).

The Queens hand is gonna happen.
I didn't play low-limit much because it pissed me off. I'm not sure of the swings, but I'd think their big. I was big on The $25-$100NL games for my first couple of years. A Small-Stakes limit stat exchange thread could tell a bit more as well. I know a lot of people here have some good data to cross-reference.
