    Default SB and multi-way pots

What hands do you limp in with from the SB?

Isn't it good to always limp into multi-way pots given the favorable odds, no matter what hand you have ??

Is this cash or tournament? NL or limit?

In a tournament, this greatly depends on the stack sizes, my M, and the pot odds. If it's a family pot early on, I'll call with any 2 cards.

If it's later on when the blinds are worth stealing, I likely raise with any 2 if folded around to me.

Without details, it's impossible to put down a specific answer.
Jason75: Ok, you check and the button bets 400. Now what?
    Beavis68: You play poker.
Jason75: Darn, I was really hoping for canasta. Maybe Gin.

    NO!

In Jason's answer he's not playing the cards - he's playing position, people and maybe stack so the cards are irrelevent!

SB is the worst of the OOP (Out of Position) and while there are plenty of posters here who will make a case for playing any 2 cards giving the pot odds the truth is always in the stats. Ask anyone who has Poker Traker or simular tracking tool what the -/+ EV of that position is. 999/1000 to 100% of the time it will be -EV - Why? because too many play trash OOP and catch just enough of the flop to lose a bundle over the long run. Even when they don't catch enough to get into trouble, they wasted a 1/2 blind bet just to see the flop and check-fold. The RARE time you connect seldom nets enough return over the long run to pay for the multiple times you will be losing or folding. Getting 11:1 pot odds to see the flop has little comfort when you flop bottom pair and lose 5, 10 or 15 bets trying to get a trash hand to win!

As a general rule of thumb - for limping - limp with any pair, suited and unsuited connectors (2 or less gap) greater than 5 and flush cards Q or higher. That's plenty loose and you now have to be careful incase you catch a piece of the flop - for example may catch a flush draw but you have to be wary of the and being a better flush. Or connectors like catching a flop like - you now have an OESD but the idiot end! Be careful, you're about to lose a bundle to

    Thanks for the replies.

I meant early in a NL tournament.

PokerTracker tells me that I lost slightly more than half BB. That would be an indication I play slightly too many hands in SB.
