    Default 66 UTG

Should I've folded (or even pushed) this preflop? I decided to limp in with 66 UTG with a rather smallish stack, hoping to get many limpers and hit trips.

There were no limpers, so I pushed after the BB minraise since I thought he just wanted to get rid of me and didn't have much of a hand either.

when your stack is less than ten times the big blind, you are in push-or-fold territory... either pushing or folding could be considered good plays in this situation depending on what kind of player you are and what kind of players you are up against.. personally i would push this flop... a UTG raise is very powerful in the minds of other players (those who pay any attention to position) with that in mind... players will lay down a lot of hands you wouldnt want to be up against (mid pocket pairs, JQs, QKs..)

Personally since you are getting low I would have prolly pushed right away since they blinds are getting decent and it wouldnt to just win them after you limp and the bb raises im not sure i might just smooth and see what happens on the flop since you have position on him, if the flop misses you or it is scarey there is a still a chance to lay it down
If there wern't luck involed i guess id win everyone

In my experience minimum raising is a sign of top pair and someone who wants callers to make some chips. I usually fold in this position if I dont hit trips.

In your position I would have pushed for sure.

    Either fold or push preflop.

The blinds are too big relative to your stack to make it a worthwhile limp.

When the blinds are that big relative to stack there's not much he's raising with that he's folding to your push so you have very little fold equity. Once again fish, put yourself in his position and look at his pot odds.

It's also very easy to imagine that someone is trying to push you off a hand and are weak, sometimes it's true, but more often than not it's wishful thinking to justify a marginal move.

By the way, when I call you fish (your name) I feel like I'm being rude and I certainly don't mean to be you seem like a thoroughly decent chap who's working hard to get game

No offense taken you are very friendly & not rude at all.

Btw, I have a related question. Suppose I'm on the button, and nobody else called. Should I attempt to steal blinds with lower PP or is that too dangerous? I mean in a situation where blinds get really high and M's are about 5-10 for everybody, not just me.

    (let's say I have 22 for instance)

Well lets look at some rough numbers here.

You need chips, here you have aperfect oppurtunity to steal. And with 22, we really don't want to be playing it post flop. And if they do call, theres only a 12% chance they have a Bigger pair, so the vast majority of the time, we're a coin flip.

Lets say all 3 of you have 5 Bets in front of you.

Lets say they fold 75% of the time here, and lets assume only one would call. 12% of the time they call your a 4-1 dog (so thats 9.6% loss, 2.4% win), 88% your 50/50 (44/44). So 12% x 25% = 4% 3.2% loss, .8% win, and the 88% x 25% = 22%, for 11%/11%

    75% you win 1.5 bets= +1.125
    3.2% you lose 5 bets= -.16
    .8% you win 5.5 bets= +.044
    11% you lose 5 bets = -.55
    11% you win 5.5 bets= +.605
    For a total of +1.064.

Meaning each time you push here with 22, you earn 1.064 BB's. These numbers are assuming teh SB folds and the BB calls. If its the other way around, the EV goes up even more.

So yes, in the end game, it is very profitable to be pushing with small pairs.
