The villain had just been moved to our table and this was literally his first hand. In hindsight, I think it was a good fold since after I had seen him play a few more hands there was no reason to suspect that he was pulling a fast one on me. My only concern is that I had since noticed that he does overvalue small to mid pairs but I still don't think that's what he held here.

Aarggh...another JJ from UTG...damn the poker gods!
Well, if I'm in this position, I would only consider two options. I either push (cause I hate seeing flops w/ JJ when I am pot committed)...or I fold. My mind says fold and look for another opportunity...my heart says, "Shove that damn stack right in his face...how dare he reraise me!"
Okay, my heart can get a little emotional at times.
If I'm on tilt, I push here...otherwise I fold. He is new to the table and sees a 4XBB raise from UTG. So what does he do? He puts half his stack in play. I only see two possibilities...he believes that a 4XBB raise from UTG means a semi-strong pair like JJ-99 (or something similar) that may fold with a big reraise OR he actually has a big hand. I think the later is far more likely and about the best you can hope for is AK where you are only a very moderate favorite.
Besides, do you want to play JJ OOP after the flop with that many chips in the pot and the odds saying it is likely an A, K or Q will hit without a Jack?
Other opinions? Are we seeing monsters under the bed here?Last edited by Coryan; 05-19-2006 at 10:58 AM.

I don't play a lot of hands....I just play a lot of them poorly.

A re-raise 5x the initial pf raise - damn right I fold. Even if this guy is a maniac that re-raise is almost 1/2 my stack (as well as his) and with only JJ that makes me a believer!

Check my last post out . . . .
I'm limping UTG with JJ every time at these blinds. Then if MP raises you, it's going to be for a lot less, and you might be able to call with your implied odds to hit your set.
Then if the flop comes A 7 J . . . .you bust him.Jason75: Ok, you check and the button bets 400. Now what?
Beavis68: You play poker.
Jason75: Darn, I was really hoping for canasta. Maybe Gin.
