Next sunday, I will play for one of the first time in my life what I can conder to be a deep stack tournament.
We start with 2500 chips and blinds are 5/10 and incresease every 15 minutes I think.
That's not really deep stack, but defenitely deeper than what I'm used too...
Another particularity is that we are something like 1700 players and 300 are ITM.
Also, the Spread is really large... 50$ for 300th place, 2200$ for a 11th place $10K for a 10th place and 160 000$ for a 1st place.
I really wonder how to aproach the fist stages of the tournament. Lets say before the break...
The hand I have more concerns with are hands like AK, 88-JJ preflop. My plan is to play pretty passively with anything but AA and KK preflop or Flush,Str8 or set after flop. I think I'll try to keep pot small and follow with a good mix of porbe bet, continous bet, check raise, check fold on the folp.
Well... any suggestion will be appreciate.

not much differenced between 100bb and 250bb. The main differnce is that you will be in the big stack portion of the MTT longer.

My oft referenced Limp and go style we be much easier to use, more effective, and have less of a detrimental affect on your stack if you miss alot.
You have lots of room to play poker. Use it.Marm is back, maybe. Been off for 3 years. Rusty as Hell.

yes, that is right, play "marm's limp and go" style.
But he is right, you can play a lot more small ball poker.
limping with crap suited hands, raising with marginal hands to steal, whatever the table allows. you should be playing more hands unless the table is really aggressive.

KJ are you talking about the $500k freeroll main event? I know you qualified for that one.

Wow, nice tourney. How do I get in?
Limp n' go is the way to go. There will probably be quite a few players who don't adjust to the structure and will be "playing poker" . . . . look to hit big hands against them and then bust them by jumping all in very quickly when you hit.
It's amazing how many times you can do this at a table and still get callers every time . . . . just goes to show most people only look at their cards.Jason75: Ok, you check and the button bets 400. Now what?
Beavis68: You play poker.
Jason75: Darn, I was really hoping for canasta. Maybe Gin.

Everyone else is definitely on the ball here, but don't forget to adjust to your table. If a lot of people are playing "small ball," the pots are not small on the flop. Not to mention that a lot people (people meaning quantity per hand) will be playing a lot of hands.
It's easy to get trapped in small play, but when you're at points where you can't be made but can surely be broken, if not close to it, get super-aggressive when you have made your big hands like nut straights, flushes, full houses, or bare board sets. The quantity of people seeing these flops will damn near guarantee the action when you want it and the aggression will pit you heads up.
Deep-stack small ball play is always the way that I go because it's most comfortable for me and maybe it is for you. But keep in mind that most people are not comfortable with this style and poorly execute it. This is a good thing to keep in mind to exploit this nature of the beast.

remember too, you have more room to call raises with stuff like 78s if you have position on an active table and can't limp in a lot.
If people are doing a lot of raising you want to call reasonable raises with middle suited connectors and small pairs. You don't need immediate pot odds because you have implied odds.
Also, don't get too attached to overpair and TPTK hands - espeically after the flop. the last thing you want to do is put in 100bb on the river with TPTK.

I echo what beav said about TPTK and overpairs . . . try not to go broke with 1 pair.
And Alex is right on . . .you make a hand, you push it for all it's worth and then some. Don't be afraid to massively overbet when you think you can get the action. And above all, get all your $ in by the turn, because broken draws don't pay on the river.Jason75: Ok, you check and the button bets 400. Now what?
Beavis68: You play poker.
Jason75: Darn, I was really hoping for canasta. Maybe Gin.
