2nd hand single table tournament.
Have a feeling I made a right hash of playing this one. Can I have comments on where you think I should have raised, re-raised or folded.
The hand went to a showdown the results of which I will post later.

Holding JJ ... comments please

I'd say that's an okay fold early in the game. You very well could have gone broke there.
My feeling:
Steve has AK or AQ (of clubs perhaps)
Jack has a big wired pair and when a club doesn't hit on the turn he pushes all in"Ok, this is for the game. How you doin' over there? NOT TOO GOOD!"" -Bubble Boy

Would have re-raised this to 120. If steve actually has AA, KK or QQ. Id expect a push or large re-raise.... in which case id probaly fold.

I just think you played your hand a bit weak prefold.Last edited by Auto; 05-12-2006 at 12:10 PM.

I'd fold preflop to a reraise (unless you are playing purely for the set).

A min raise and a min reraise to you. Reraiser won the first pot - any info on him? QQ+ is very possible here, but so are a lot of other hands.
I don't necessarily mind playing JJ for set value early in an SnG, but I don't mind getting all my chips in pf either. If you call, commit to playing for set value. 57% of the time the flop contains an overcard to a Jack (A,K,Q). Not good vs. multiple opponents. And any flop that you like (short of set) QQ+ likes anyway. So, most of the time you will be scared of the flop.
I think pf: fold, call, push are all viable options. Personally, I push and hope to double up. If not, on to the next one. Calling is OK, but play for a set. Definitely fold the flop, as you did. Folding preflop is fine, but I usually require a read that an opponent is very solid and there is a good chance he has QQ+."There is a good chance I gave you a very bad description of something that doesn't work."

At this stage of tournament I think you played perfectly.
There may be times when you are folding to AK betting and 88 calling, but I think you should be playing JJ for set value here. Good Fold.

I didn't want to raise after the first reraise this early in the tourney as I didn't want to stir the hornets nest any further, I just wanted to see the flop cheaply without getting all in.
Any weakness show on the flop by the initial raisers and I would probably of all-in.
In hindsight i probably should have saved myself the extra 105 chips on the re-re-raise and folded pre flop.
Anyway the rest of the hand went as follows:
----- TURN ----- [2c 3s 5c][3c]
steveh820: bets 460 and is all-in
Jack26052: calls 460
----- RIVER ----- [2c 3s 5c 3c][Ts]
----- SHOW DOWN -----
steveh820: shows [Kh Ks] (Two Pairs, Kings and Threes, Ten high)
Jack26052: shows [Qd Qh] (Two Pairs, Queens and Threes, Ten high)

Since the second player only raised 15 more chips to a total of 45 (when you have 970), I don't mind the call and play for set value.
Note that if the second player raises to a larger amount (say 90 or so) I'd fold because you can't cap the action.
When donk #1 only reraises to 150 . . . this is an easy call as you're getting your odds to hit your set. And you know that if you hit, you're stacking both players . . . . .
Note that If I'm donk #1, I'm all in here as fast as possible expecting at least one (and maybe 2 calls).
Easy fold on the flop . . . no set, no bet.Jason75: Ok, you check and the button bets 400. Now what?
Beavis68: You play poker.
Jason75: Darn, I was really hoping for canasta. Maybe Gin.

agreed. At this point in the tourney, with that type of pf action I would be playing this for set value as well.
