Is this unlucky or did I play badly?
I was playing a game off .25/.50c NL Hold 'em on Prima.
I know this is the problem with playing weaker aces as you dont know where you are in the hand but with 5 players in I limp on button with ATs.
The flop comes down AK8 rainbow and it checks around to cutoff who bets 50c into around $3 pot. I decide to reraise this to $3 - good play?
It folds back round to cutoff who then min reraises me. Maybe I should fold here but I don't have a lot of respect for him so I decide to call and try to check it down. I think he may have a hand like A9/A7 but could equally have A8 for 2 pair or AJ.
Turn is a 6. He checks and I check.
River is a King. He bets 50c and I call.
He shows down K4 for trip kings.
My question is mainly regarding the turn play. As he has checked showing wekaness should I make a move there and then to take the pot? As it turns out I have given him a free card with 5 outs to outdraw me so that is technically a mistake.

I think you played it just fine. You had no read on the guy, so you had to play it cautiously. Next time, you would have pushed on the flop to his min reraise I assume, since he has shown a weakness to bet weak hands.

well if im coming into the pot here im probably raising AT in a shorthanded game with position. i love your re raise on the flop, and i dont think it went so bad after that. you should probably call his flop raise against an unknown player and i think once he checks the turn i would probably think hes on a weak ace or bluff, maybe fire again. however since hes unknown, a free card isnt a horrible play, so if you take it try to see his hand as cheaply as possible.

Sorry tight - it was a 10 handed game, I meant 5 players had limped already so I was getting odds to have a look. short handed I would raise ATs.

Why would you push??? People may raise with shitty hands but 99% most people wont call a reraise all-in with bottom pair.
Pushing will only get called if your beat. You played it fine you were just unlikly but I think you should raise on the button in this situation.

Notice I said VS THIS PLAYER. You now have a read on him that he overplays crap. So you want me to allow him to continue? No, I'm going to punish him for it.

played it fine
i think you played this hand just fine. you might could have bet on the turn but really with the raise and reraise that happened you both had money invested in the pot. it is highly unlikely that he would have folded and you would have lost more money then what you did. the only thing that would have stopped him froming winning would have been he missed the river, which he didnt. chalk it up to not really a bad beat but just a bad river. i think

def bet the turn when he checks either he is now trapping you with the best hand or he is afraid his hand is no longer good after you raised and called his raise on the flop. bet a good amount on the turn and it will always tell you where you are at.

I chek the turn to. When CO bets weak and then min raises you, that play looks to me like CO was originally betting weak b/c he was hoping for calls.
turn check
river he bets, and i will prolly call or raise depending if i know stuff baout him.
what a donk he is thoiugh. playing K like that
