Any advice on how to play against and beat calling stations (players that call constantly on shitty hands and just get lucky)?
This is usually the case when I play amongst friends; they're new to the game and so they do unpredictable things. I had a game last night and ended up coming 5th out of 8. My opponents were constantly calling my raises with shitty hands (7,2 off etc.) and they just kept getting lucky on the flops. Bear in mind that my raises were decent sized raises in the circumstances. I just had a really hard time getting my stack up.
The only thing I can think of is to play exceptionally tight and play agressive when I have the nuts. Every hand that was played, except one ( I bluffed him out of it), went to a showdown. And they were always big hands: full house, four of a kind, etc.
Any ideas/help?
Cheers.

Only advice is make good hands and bet them. Value hands like top pair top kicker very highly.
I play in a tournament like this sometimes and it can be frustrating because you feel like you do need cards to beat these players, but they don't need cards to beat you. It's like by being so bad and calling with any 2 cards they are impossible to read and you have to take a view whether your hand is good.
Know one thing - if you hit cards you will win!

I'm pretty sure he means when playing against calling stations. You don't want a bluff to be called (obviously) so why do it against someone who calls everything?
This thread reminds me of something I've been thinking about for awhile.
How do you guys play against passive players? I'm not talking about calling stations, just players who don't bet/raise their strong hands. Often when I'm in a hand against a passive player, I have no idea where I stand.
For example:
I have QJ, limp from MP and the flop comes Qxx. It's checked to me, I bet. Villain calls. Turn is a blank. I bet, villain calls. River is a blank. I bet, villain calls.
I turn over my QJ and he turns over his KQ.
Any advice for playing against these kind of players?

Why not just check and if he bets re-raise?
Either he'll call (than you drop) or he drops

About calling stations I think I would chase them all-in with premium hands, before or after the flop.
Once you got the chip lead it should be easy to handle them...
