Default How do you play mid pairs?

I play a lot of STTs and was wondering how people play hands like 55 to 1010 or even JJ. I was especially wondering about early on in a tounament.

    Heres what prompted this thread...

I was just playing a $10+1 sit n go tourney and got 1010 for the first hand, I raised 4xbb and got 1 caller, obviously the flop comes with a picture card he bets about 1/2 to 3/4 the pot, now what? ymtc.
Bad Beat of the week 27/08/2006:

    :kh :jd

    Flop - :jc :3s :6d I raise 2/3 pot, Villian calls.

Turn :kd - I raise to put villian all in, he calls

he flips over :4d :4s

River :4c

Do you have the hand history?

I don't, it's on VC and I don't know if you can get it. It was more a general question about playing mid pairs rather than that hand anyway really.

i used to overplay them, but i learned. in the beginning of the tournament, usually i just play for a set or a equally great flop. i USED to raise, but since so many people call the raise, im forced to commit all of my chips to average cards. so with the help of a few pfoers, i dumbed down my pf agerssion with TT and simmilar hands, and i just play for sets or maybe try to take down a SMALL pot with a good flop like 2 5 8 or something.

LATER in the tournament when i blinds are worth stealing, these are great hands to play agressively with position. (or basically push shortstack anywhere at the table.)

I generally do one of four things depending on table conditions, my position, the action in front of me, and blinds to stacks

    1. fold
    2. call.
    3. raise
    4. check (if I am in the bb and have this option)

I think I agree, 10s do just seem to be hands to get you in trouble early on. I've seen way too many people going with big bets or all-in with these sorts of hands and then wondering why they get beat.

I love them late on tho.

Early in a tournament i will play mid pairs if i can see the flop cheaply, if i hit my set i usually slow play as long as its the highest card on the flop, if not play super agressive..

If you dont hit your set, its an easy fold if there is an overcard and someone raises..

In the 6max games I play, I play middle pairs (66+) fairly aggressively pf. I'm looking for low cards on the flop, so I can continue to bet. If an ace hits, I'll represent it if its checked to me about 60% of the time and just check-fold the rest.

As far as tournaments I'm playing 22-99 for set value, and 1010-JJ for set value and hoping to have an overpair after the flop.

As far as your example, without any reads I'm folding pretty quick. Mabye a raise to see if dudes really got it, but only if I'm feeling frisky.

say you are feeling frisky, you re-rasie and the other guy simply calls you. Do you take that as him having hit the picture or that he was bluffing but with possible outs?
