    Default need a little help

help in different aspects of my game

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I play mostly SNG tournies on Poker Stars. I do pretty well. I feel my skill level is above average and get respect from live players that I play with. I think my stats are a little above average in SNG's... actually to be honest I have no idea at what is average, below average, or great.

I have played 210 games, my average profit is $10, average stake is $25, Average ROI is 34% and my total profit is $1677. My ROI percents go up as my stakes go up... at $10 - 36%, $20 - 30%, $30 - 44%, $40 - 57%, and $50 - 70%. those are all round abouts that I get from sharkscope.

I was wondering if someone that understands the stats a little better, would help me out. Would the stats say that I am an average or above average player?

I have mismanaged my bankroll just like many others. I do not have the bankroll to play the $50 and $100 SNG incase of a really bad streak, even though at this time I know that I have been playing very well in them.

If I could get some insight on how some of you manage your bankroll that would also help me very well... thank you in advance for taking the time.

First thing I would say is that managing your bankroll is part of being a "good player". Others may disagree and quote legendary players who died broke but if you play out of your roll you are asking for trouble.

The whole point of bankroll management is so that when you lose with AA v 22 and it costs you come 4th instead of 1st in a SnG it doesn't matter because you have enough buy-ins that in the long run you'll win far more of these situations than you lose.

This leads to the second point which is that 210 buy-ins is not a huge amount, it's a good sample though and 30% or more is excellent, but if you've played fewer than 100 at any of those levels (which I suspect you have if you have 210 in total) then the stats are not that significant.

Third, do a search here on bankroll management

My bankroll wasn't depleted by me playing in limits I could not handle... but for the fact that I was in between jobs and had to use my bankroll to pay for some unexpected expenses... I usually do manage my bankroll very well, I am just starting over at the bottom again.

I have played over 100 games between $20 and $30 and the ROI is in the mid 30's

That's a different matter then. If you can sustain anything around 30% then you're running good.

Your stats are good . . . but way undersampled. You have 210 games for 5 different stakes . . . that's an average of 42 games at each stake (I'm guessing you have a lot more $10 and $20 than $40 and $50).

I've also found that I do better as the buy-ins go up (personally, I think it's because I care more about $50 SNGs than I do about $10 or $20 ones).

Do a little experiment . . . . play 100 games - 50 at $20 and 50 at $50, add those to your current results for $20 and $50 games, and come back and let's see how you're doing.
Jason75: Ok, you check and the button bets 400. Now what?
    Beavis68: You play poker.
Jason75: Darn, I was really hoping for canasta. Maybe Gin.
