    Default mtt hand

20+2 on 180 man on stars (of course i got bad beat again, so im out, but im going to win one of them eventually)

early in tourny, small blinds(whatever they start at), you havnt played a hand, i had 3k
how do you play this hand. you have in LP
4 people limp, you limp (speculative hand for a cheap flop and good pot odds, yes?)

    flop is

top pair with decent flush draw. how do you play this hand when its checked to you? how about when somone bets the pot or around there?
does your play change when your M is lower? say you have 1200 chips, blinds of 25/50 (disregard proper preflop play for a minute)
does your play change in a ring game?

there are arguments for checking and for betting here, lets see what pfo has to say.

Im playing this one aggressively. The only hand you have to fear here is KQ (maybe AQ but you figure someone would raise with that) and even then you aren't drawing dead.

I bet near 100% of the time...

You want to take $$$ from other FDs.
You want to make any pairs, over cards pay to see more cards
Most important IMO, You want to build the pot and also hide your hand in case you hit the flush. You are a clear favorite over any hand but a set here.

I dont see anybody hitting the turn and pay you for that anyway... maybe AJ or AT... and they wont pay you big. Its multy way, you dont want to give free card with a big hand but really vulnerabe hand like that... Its like AK PF... Favorite VS most hand, but very hard to play on the flop if you have no info on your oponent hand.

    i agree with you both!

    reasons for betting
-late position, take a free card on the turn if you need to perhaps
-you have top pair, nobody raised preflop so it is pretty unlikley you are outkicked, the only feasable hand i can think of to beat you is a set, and there are only 2 sets, one of which still isnt that feasable. (22 is folded by some people utg)
-even if you are beat, you have a flush draw
-bet here, you might be up against a higher flush, you do not want to get stacked if a diamond falls on the turn. plus you need to protect against any other hand, its top pair for christ sake!

    reasons for a check
-there are no reasons you should check this hand. your FD might not be good so who knows if the turn is a death card, you have top pair and must protect it against 5 other limpers, etc, etc, etc. bet!

So, I bet about the pot for sheer value, to perhaps give myself a free card on the turn, to protect against a higher flush draw(betting the pot SHOULD get the job done)

there are so many ways to get paid off with this hand, im definantly betting in early stages of a tournament, imo its a GREAT hand to push with a low m in a tournament, and ill bet in a cash game as well!

unfourtunately i dont think this will get as many respones as my SNG strategy thread, ill try again and attempt to make it tricky as soon as i come across something.

I hate flopping TPWK with a flush draw, I would rather flop middle pair. your kicker problems make you a fresh money dog.

I may bet, I may check call, I may check raise allin, depends on the table and my mood.

I dont understand what you mean here... why mid pair would be as good...

Only KQ fit the action and I think it bets the flop.

Early in a tourney, I'm probably just pushing all in as fast as possible.

Think about the hand this way: If you've got the best hand now (top pair) against a better flush draw, you're the favorite. If you're behind to a better queen (KQ or AQ), you've got 12 outs to redraw a better hand (flush or 2 pair) and are still a favorite.

But most of the time, you'll get called down with QT, 66, A7, etc and be an absolutely huge favorite to win.

Later on, I'm just going to make a solid bet (once all the maniacs are gone) . . . got to get that $ into the pot early, before everyone decides they don't like their draws on the turn . . . .

Jason75: Ok, you check and the button bets 400. Now what?
    Beavis68: You play poker.
Jason75: Darn, I was really hoping for canasta. Maybe Gin.

    i bet/raise this 100% of the time.
if my M is low, i may go all in depending on stack size.
