With no reads,
Alright the flop play is very good here, you isolated the SB when he 3 bets it seems like you are probably beat. He didn't raise PF so he probably doesn't have QQ or better. If he has 88-JJ or two pair you don't really have the odds to call down and since you don't have any reads you don't know if he is doing this with a flush draw and a couple of overs either.
Turn call I may or may not make, not sure if you win 1:7 times here to make river call. Against an unknown I think I probably fold especially given the average player at these levels is fairly passive.

Thanks Phyto.....Great analysis. He showed JJ, and afterwards I was kicking myself. I think I should have saved 1 Bet here. I agree the turn is marginal, but I should pick up another bet if I hit which would make it ok.
River is big mistake IMHO. I should have known I was behind, instead I was in calldown mode and stopped thinking.

This is a really tough hand. I think phyto is probably right in his analysis but I REALLY hate that that flush draw is there. I have seen so many of these donkeys bet out with the flush draw and then when they get raised and everyone else folds they three bet it. It is almost like they three bet it to spite you for raising everyone else out.
I don't really like the turn call you made. You are either way behind, in which case I don't like calling, or way ahead of his draw and seems like you should be raising. I seem much more likely to me he is on a draw than a made hand better than mine. I don't think calling the turn here is very productive.
I would have capped the flop and folded to him if he bet out on the turn. I like to try to get as much info as possible before the turn in a headsup way ahead / way behind hand.
Given that you didn't do that, I would have raised the turn and taken the free showdown unless I hit an A or a 7. I fold to a three bet on the turn - since I can't be sure that if he three bets me that an A or a 7 wins it. I think a significant amount of time he three bets my turn raise I am drawing dead.

Thanks growlers. I need to digest this hand a little more because you raise some great points that I clearly need to consider.
I think your cap the flop would play better against a better opponent. This guy was not aggressive enough to raise me with a flush draw. In fact he was such an LPP that I immediately put him on an overpair when ......yet I called down to the river UI which I think was vaporlock.
I shouldn't take such a narrow view and lock on on a particular hand though. I need to consider all the possibilities and play accordingly.

I was going to say the same thing... cap the flop and fold if he bets out on the turn.
I really hate it though when I do the cap there and they check/call the turn and then show JJ or something else strong. That's life though.-You may not know this, but poker is a game of incomplete information.

ya but his overpair is only a good hand on the flop, if you cap it on the flop he might think he is already beat by 2-pair or a set. You have to take control of the hand if you want to win and the only way here is to get aggressive, if he checks the turn you know he is scared and you can bet him out most of the time.

Ignore the specifics of this hand for a moment - the overall situation is that you have a good but vulnerable hand headsup with not alot of outs to improve to a better winner - with a board full of draws.
I hate calling in this situation on three streets, which is what you did (you called after the flop three bet).
This would be just as applicable if you had
on a board of
or any number of other possibilities. So take a step back and think of the overall situation, not this specific hand. Hell, you even have position on this guy and you still gave up control of the hand.
I only go into calldown mode when I am on a big draw that I know I can throw away on the river unimproved, or a situation where I have a hand where I am way ahead / way behind and there are no draws - like I have A9 and the board is A27 and I am not sure whether the other guy has a better kicker (and I am not comfortable folding if reraised).
I think it is a huge mistake to go into calldown mode in a hand where any club, and card 8-K and a bunch of other straight cards may kill you. Take a stand or get the hell out.

Growlers......great stuff.
Let me ask this.
Lets assume that I cap the flop and he checks the turn. Am I now assuming he is on a draw so I take the lead and fire away at him? If so do I take the free river?
I like the agression you are preaching. Capping costs me an extra small bet and potentially saves me BB's on the turn and river.
But if this guy goes into call down mode with his jacks I have made this a more costly pot.....................of course it will probably win me enough pots to compensate for the extra small bet when I lose.
