I started about 2 weeks ago with around $200 and I have now got up to $550 or there abouts, I was having good and bad runs in that time (lost $75 in one day). I have played 103 $10 STTs placing in 47. I believe I am making about $3.5 profit per table on average. I think that's a fairly good start, would you agree?
The problem I have had recently is not getting dealt many good starting hands or when I do I completely miss the flop. This usually means I end up with about half my original stack and 4 or 5 players left. I then push with the usual (Pocket Pair, Good Ace or Good suited connectors) and end up losing the coin toss and finishing 4th or 5th.
Is there any plays I could make early or mid touney to avoid this or is it just bad luck with the coin toss hands?

Don't play so tight with a large M. You are just trying to survive, not succeed. If your problem is a small stack on the bubble, then jsut don't let your self get a small stack.
Marm is back, maybe. Been off for 3 years. Rusty as Hell.
Luck is a Residue of Design.

Marm is right! Raise more often with good position in unopoened pot whrn the blinds comes to 30/60 to 50/100 range in order to steal PF. you dont really nead cards to do so.
Normaly the field is around 6 players, and normaly if every body is in the above 2:1 VS the chip leader, its pretty easy to steal some blinds! Nobody want to get involve with maginal hands VS a raiser. That should allow you to build more comfortable stack. Of course you will end up going out early a bit more often, but you will win more VS finninshing 2nd, 3rd or 4th...
That said, 47 in 103 is realy good ITM %! Keep the god work I would say!

Damn you Jason, that was going to be my wiseass reply.
Basically, just learn how to pick your stealing/pushing spots.

Try to get a big stack early, i'd rather bust 10th than 4th.

you are playing too tight in the endgame. steal the blinds more, they are obviously eating you alive. for instance.
you have 2k chips in the SB, 300 allready invested with 300/600 blinds. its 4 handed, folds to you on the SB with Q7s. the bb has 3000 chips, that, combined with the fact that he has played a conservitave game thus far(if you push all in, he only calls you with something like 77+, AJs+, AQo+)
means you HAVE to push here. its +EV. you want to make +EV pushes and this is a perfect scenario.
sure, your hand sucks, but hes only calling you with the top few starting hands, meaning you will steal the blinds (and add 900 chips to your 2k stack, BIG help) a huge majority of the time!
and even when he does call, you arent looking too bad against most of his hands!
against 88 you have 1 overcard and are about a 70-30 underdog
against AJ you have live cards you are like 60-40 maybe a bit better
against some trash hands you are a favorite! (however this type of player wont call you)
there are 3 hands which suck for you, but even then you win 10-20% of the time
if you are too afraid to push your chips in when you have under 10bb's, you should move down stakes. play agressive poker. poker websites raise blinds FAST because they want the sngs to go quickly so you can play more. exploit this!
