Default What can I learn from this?

Maybe it's just luck of the draw, but I seem to be much more successful at SnG's than ring games. Does that tell me something about my play? Is there something that maybe works well in teh SnG's that I'm doing but need to adjust for ring?

You value stealing blinds too much?

Actually, I don't do much blind stealing in the touries until we get to 4 or 5 handed, so I don't think that's it.

you probably adjust to the short handed play, and being able to mix up the game suits you better than having to grind it out in a full ring for hours.

Mathematically, tournaments are a "closed system".. the strategey is straightforward, the returns (which are carefully constructed by the sites) are low but allow a good player a reasonable return.. This is is what Skalansky hinted at in his book.

SnG's are good trade..

Mathematically, Ring is an open an ill-conditioned problem - it is far more interesting and difficult to beat .. the boundaries are set by the players , not the blinds and prize structure..

Any site will allow strong players to make money at Tournaments.. but a very strong player (who assesses opponents etc) will approximately treble his return at Ring.. That is judging from prize structures at PS, PP (and obviously Empire), Gaming room and Doyles(/VC)..

Bob...

Speaking of 64, I had runner runner two pair to win a nice pot today, against someone who overvalued their pair of Queens. I had the flush draw at least.

The games are different, the goals are different.

You probably have some holes in your ring game that are strengths in your s/g game.

I suggest you post a bunch of hands on this forum and ask for a little advice. I kinda agree with Bob that s/gs will not teach you true poker. But the same arguement could be made for NL? Maybe the only pure poker players are the limit players?

Anywho, post some hands where you think you coulda won more, or shouldn't've lost as much, and maybe somebody here could help you plug a few of these up.

Cheers,

Mike
