I got AA on the first hand of a SNG, and I have a feeling that I played it terribly wrong... I managed to hit a set and still lose all my money.
Please, teach me to not play hold'em like an idiot.

Okay, how badly did I screw this one up?

...
200 pf is way too much
200 on the flop is way too small especially after 200 pf??
he check/called check/called and on river made a bet that was screaming he wants a call. its either 88 or a straight most of the time its a straight so just call no need to push there.
check/calling means hes drawing make him pay and then when he finally comes to life you gotta realize he was just trapping you and salvage some chips

obviously the PF bet was not too much, but 160 probably would have been better.
You should have just pushed on the flop, as JT is always a danger.
No chance of folding after that with your stack.

He had what 6 outs on the flop. Just a bad beat I think. I think you played it good except I don't like your big reraise preflop with AA. I would have made it 100 or 120 to go, i want king queen playing a pot with me here. Everything else was fine, good postflop bet, etc.

I like your pf raise. However, I think your post flop raise is weak. I think you need to make him really pay, if he wants to keep drawing. It is very unfortunate that he caught it on the turn, because another bet from he might have got him out of the pot.

I like the 200 and it had the desired effect and got you a customer.
After that you got unlucky.
Had you bet more on the flop you might be thinking you overplayed it when he folded but I would have made it 400 on the flop and won a small amount rather than lose a lot.
The only other tactic would have been to check the flop hope for a bet and reraise big (but that would risk giving a free draw and probably would kill you more often).
But what do I know, my AAs hold up worse than a tent in a hurricane.

Please refrain from using the word hurricane, or any analogies pertaining to hurricanes. I've had enough of them already.

200 before the flop is fine, and I might have bet a little more on the flop.Last edited by Announced Tilt; 12-08-2004 at 11:20 AM.

Sorry Tilt,
How about "stand up worse than a one legged man on an ice rink"?

Forget what JKo said about 200 preflop being to much, its perfect here. You're flop bet was a little small but its ok if you put him on AJ KJ KK QQ etc. Rest of hand is just poker

poker..
In NL poker there are some hands you will lose... if you play aggressively... this is one of them..
If you don't play agressively.. you'll bleed to death..
In a SNG some ppl would go all in preflop with KQs.. you'd have to call with AA. High trip Aces are all-in at lower levels.. at SNGs' a lot of ppl will be all in on the two pair, low trips even high pair with a good kicker, you may even get someone semibluffing a draw and trying to see it through... you dominate more of these hands than you lose to...See me playing $10/$20NL like it was play money
