Default How are these rebuy tourney stats???

From a $15 WPT satellite on stars... Not too bad me thinks..... Was a re-buy tourney and I made it in the top 10 with NO rebuy, and NO add-on!!!

During current Hold'em session you were dealt 81 hands and saw flop:
    - 4 out of 9 times while in big blind (44%)
    - 0 out of 11 times while in small blind (0%)
    - 5 out of 61 times in other positions (8%)
    - a total of 9 out of 81 (11%)
    Pots won at showdown - 4 of 4 (100%)
Pots won without showdown - 7

One HYPER aggresive guy had 6 rebuys and was the chip leader with $T24000 at the break (almost $T10k more than the field) and busted out 10 off the bubble... I know how aggresive rebuy tourneys can be, so I feel pretty DAMN good about having $T2200 at the break and making a move and finishing strong... VERY hard to do in a rebuy....

You had 2200 at the break? Thopse stats seem pretty fucking weak then IMHO. And then you didn't add-on? Seems you were more lucky than good.

People, Rebuys and Add-ons are not some scam by the house to get you to pay more money. They are not like Insurance bets at black jack. Rebuys and Add-ons ARE +EV, USE THEM.

At least they are not -EV.

I am not so sure Marm.

In terms of ROI if 1st prize is say $400 and you are going to pay $10 to enter, 2x rebuys and a double add on, you are only getting 800% of your investment back if you do win. Meaning (excluding other moneys) you would want to win roughly 1 in 8 of them.

If you just buy in once, you are getting 4000% of investment back, so need to win 1 in 40. I think rebuys and add-ons are ways of making the fish bolster the kitty and increase your EV.

It's mathmatically proven that Rebuys and most add-ons increase your EV in terms of winning. The only time an add-on is -EV is when you have such a large % (>90%) of the chips in play, that adding on is literally costing you money.

But in this case, we're talking a large field Stars tourney. He managed to gain just 700 chips TOTAL. A single instant rebuy and add-on at the break would have made it 3700. 2200 vs 4200 is almost double his stack. And ewverybody knows that in MTT's you have to double up to win, and he passed on an opportunity to do so.

Anyways, in MTT's, you will have a 20-30% VPIP normally, style dependant. Rebuy period this usually goes up another 5%-10% as you take advantage of others' looser play. His stars stats are saying he had a VPIP of around 9%. That is just weak tight. IF he had just a horrible run of cards, then this is totally understandable, but he didn't (I'm assuming) since he's proud of these numbers. Hes taken down 11 pots and lost none, yet he only made 700 TC? That means he checked a lot of good hands down.

It's not about a single tournament (where obviously if you don't rebuy you can make a bigger ROI) it's about the LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG RUN where rebuying and adding on is +EV as Marm says.
