Should I have pushed PF? And this guy was an idiot, he could have taken the pot on the flop and/or the turn but instead he waits to the river and makes a pathetic stab at the pot.
I had no read on the guy as I was playing at work and therefore couldn't pay attention as much as I should be.

You could have taken the pot on the flop or turn as well.

Why didn't you try to take it down when he checks the flop and then turn? Have you been doing alot of raising at that table?

Honestly, I had no idea where I was at. After he call/raised me PF, I put him on a decent hand and I thought the check on the flop was a trap. The check on the turn told me had nothing but I was still willing to check it down. I really only called the river because I had the odds to do so and I was curious to see what he had.
I realise I probably donked this one pretty bad but I figured any bet would result in a check raise.

Mr McJ... why are you afraid of him check/raising you? He raised you preflop and you flat called. What does he think that YOU have that he would go for a check-raise? You're representing a middle strength hand... AQ, TT maybe. If he's trying to get money out of you, he's going to bet there, not check and hope to raise you.
On the turn if you're sure he has nothing, why give him a free card? He could easily have had AQ and improved to take a 3 dollar pot where he was drawing to 3 outs.-You may not know this, but poker is a game of incomplete information.

My comment wasn't really a strategy critique. I was just trying to point out, as nicely as possible, that "this guy was an idiot" might be a little harsh when MrMcJ played the hand passively as well. As far as non-results-oriented critique, I think PJs comments are spot on.

I can see where it might be a trap on the flop, rainbow and no real possible draws. The turn you should've bet atleast $1 into it.
His call/raise makes you look like a maniac. He's got no real reason to do it if he's actually holding a big pair and no reason not believe you've got the better hand unless you've been raising everything.

Thanks for the comments. I guess I just tightened up too much when he call/raised me PF. I went into my playing scared mode, which seems to be my biggest weakness.
