Played against 2 friends yesterday and won. But I pulled a stunt that I'm not completly sure was a good one. Here's what happened:
One on one combat... I had absolutly nothing and kept raising after the flop and the turn. He called both times. By the time the river came and the board showed a pair of 3s I raised with about 400 chips. He was thinking and I said (here comes the good part): Just so you know, I got a set of 3s. After a few minutes of thinking he layed the hand down.
Is this good tactics or just stupid?

Lying, or am I?

i would have called. usually if im deep in thought, and im pretty sure i want to call but i would like some more info, ill think for about a minute, then re ask you know "how much is it?" then ill stack up the required chips at a moderate pace. usually then my opponent will assume im going to call and if i see him look nervous or say something like "just so you know i have tripp 3's" ill usually consider it a desperation move and be more inclined to call.
also if a player knows you well, and you say that, they will think back to preflop and slowly pick apart your play. a good player will probably find that your play doesnt make any sense for a pair of 3's, so the reason you said that is again out of desperation.
but obviously it worked at the time, and in poker alot of your play is determined by conditions, so maybe with the right conditions and against the right players you can use that line.

Technically you wouldn't have a set, you'd have trips

I'd tell the truth about my hand a lot from now on, get a couple of calls downs, then bluff a few chronic
