    Default Weak-Tight? Folding the nuts

PLO live game on half-day today.
    .1/.2

UTG makes a small raise 4 call and I do from the button with

    FLOP:

UTG makes some small feeler-bet Some guy pots it, anotehr guy-repots it and a third player calls, I think for a minute then muck the nuts.

    TURN:
    RIVER:

First guy shows for top set. Second guy shows for the nut staright with nut flush re-draws

That is literally a text-book fold, good job.

When you can fold stuff like that, it is definitely a new level in play.

That is just the kind of hand TJ Cloutier talks about in Championship Omaha.

it is generally accepted not to play small run-downs like that in PLO.

I'd like to read that book. I just started playing omaha but it seemed to make sense. It feels good to hear that from someone who (presumably) knows something about omaha.

To those interested I twodimed it

    Omaha Hi: 666 enumerated boards containing 7c 4h 3h
cards win %win lose %lose tie %tie EV
    6s 3c 5d 4d 1 0.15 403 60.51 262 39.34 0.198

I definitely know something, how much is debateble.

Hellmuth's chapter in Play Poker Like the Pro's is very good. Although he really over estimates the power of AAxx - post flop.

I spent about 3 months playing PLO from 1c/2c up to 50c/1.00

The swings were too much for me at the high stakes and the penny games just got too much to handle, they are nuts on UB, 4-6 way all-ins are not unusual.

It is so hard putting in pot sized raises on the flop and then turn and then having to fold on the river. Just got too much for me to take. I tried limit Omaha high-only, but that is mind numbing against loose weak players.

So I switched to limit 8/b.

Bonch, you're too good. In Omaha, with a small straight off the flop, you can pretty much guarantee that you will get outdrawn on the turn or river. The feeler bet smelled of a set. Once the the guy potted(? ) it, that is when you know someone else has the straight or a big draw. Turns out he had both. After the re-raise it was definitely time to get out of there. Play like that will win you a lot of money.

EDIT: Yes, AAxx is overrated. Don't get me wrong. It is a very good starting hand. However, I like AK89ds or AKQJds. These are hands with much better drawing potential. With A's, chances are your hand will be trying to hold on, rather than improve. I really only like AAxx when it is double suited.

This's very educational! I have tried the omaha penny tables on PS 3 or so months ago... Madness.

Does Phil H even play good omaha? I thought he was an HE player...

Anywho, isn't it true that Europeans like drawing hands, and americans love AAxx .

    Cheers,

    Mike

Phil plays everything including chinese poker. He won a Euorpean Stud championship one year.

Actually, the limit hold'em section is probably the worst in his book.

I think all of Phil's bracelets were in hold'em games. Hehe.

I guess my European side is showing. I would definitely think that Americans would like AAxx more than a drawing hand. We're pretty impatient, hehe. I guess I'm an exception to the rule.

    This is true.

Believe it or not though, you can still be a decent player without a bracelet.

Well, yea. I'm just saying that I don't think he has done nearly as well in Omaha as he has done in Hold'em. I'm sure he is a very good omaha player, but I don't think he is one of the best.
