I play limit. From PT I am a winner up to 1/2, and a loser in small sample sizes at 2/4 and 3/6.

Right now, as an example, I'm playing .15/.30 while rebuilding from getting knocked down to 0. (I used their rewards system to get into their $2 sit 'n go, won it, and played from there). I'll probably be moving back to .25/.50 in a day or so... at these limits 100 BB is more then enough really. My problem has been bonus clearing though... I was working their 500% bonus, and figured I'd mix in some 3/6 to clear it faster. It was working when I was playing disciplined, but I let a little success go to my head and then didn't move down when the losing streak got bad. So from being properly rolled for .50/1 I went down to virtually nothing. Just discipline. Oh well... we'll see how long it takes me this time

I have played $5/$10 PL Omaha with the entirity of my then-bankroll on the table.

I have played $50/$100 Limit Holdem with the entirity of my then-bankroll on the table.

In both instances I had about $3k.

In both instances I lost the lot.

Pretty sick and it taught me a lesson (it was still fun though).

Currently grinding my way up again from nothing via $1/$2 limit holdem six max. I will buy in for $40 apiece on up to four tables at a time and grind away until the tables break up or I lose my buy-in(reloading if it seems very fishy).

Now I've reached $1k (hard to tell with certainty if its hawt running or good play, but I would like to believe the latter) and plan to jump up to $2/$4 in the next couple of days.

A compulsive gambling streak gave me the impetus to play limits for which I was wayyyy under-rolled, hoping to hit a good streak and thus vastly increase my worldly wealth. But the horror of losing the money (twice...) was enough to focus my ideas a little more clearly. I was actually making +EV decisions at the time of these losses, with no regard for my all-too-vulnerable bankroll -- but the variance was able to cruelly wipe me out. So in some regards one could state that a compulsive gambling streak is essential for one to make the right poker decisions regardless of the amount of money on the table (being a student, $3k can cover my living costs for many months). On the other hand, should a hand go against you (as they will) when the funds are irreplacable; that same compulsive gambling streak has rendered weeks or months of hard work effectively meaningless.

That said, if an average $1/$2 grinder was given the bankroll to play $150/$300 "safely", I would hypothesize that many would be intimidated by the possibility of losing several thousand dollars in any one session, and perhaps play sub-optimally as a result. Perhaps this is where a compulsive gambling streak comes in at its most essential; but at the lower limits I think it brings more harm than good in the long run, by prompting players to step up before they can handle the swings with discipline and fortitude.

An interesting thread, thanks.

I guess we're not really underrolled unless we don't have the funds to reload.

Well, while I could technically reload ... my wife would make my life miserable. Even when I was cashing out a couple hundred to help with the bills she was still bitching about the 50 I put in.
