See my thread in the river rats section. I have just transitioned to ring and am suffering through a horrible run and a couple of bouts of tilt. I am definately playing stupid poker right now. The thing is I know the answer is to stay within my limit and grind out the profits....it's those damn big pots I am losing that are killing me. Every time I have a hand I am running into a bigger hand and it crushing my #'s. The funny thing is, even with the bad run, if I just remove the tilt hands I would be even...............a valuable lessen is in there somewhere.

You have never played poker longer than you plan - or is that the one?

My name is Barbourman, and I am compulsive. I don't really have to reload often...but I NEVER cash-out. I started with my original $50 and I move up in limits based on my BR (not playing withing my BR though). I have seen the $50 fluxuate from $10 to $3,000 (when I actually do hit the BIG hands). It really doesn't hurt so much when you lose a $800 hand when you think about the original $50 that you still have - LOL.

I have learned alot reading these forums and I know what I SHOULD do. Patience is a virtue!

Btw...I have played withing my BR for the last week or so, and its going well.

I don't see why a compulsive gambler couldn't be a good poker player. In fact, from what I've see out of some of the top pros it wouldn't surprise me to find of some of them are at least boarderline compulsive. I think the two main symptoms would be playing above your bankroll (more thrill), and playing other more chance related games (I've heard stories of pros winnings $100,000 at poker then getting up from the table only to walk over to the craps table and lose every penny of it).

Nope.. distress at home.. the wife doesnt like it... If I was a losing player then it would be fine.. just kick me off to GA.. unfortunately I pay the school fees and for the family holiday every year through poker.

There are real social/professional implications of me playing poker..

I rarely play beyond the two hours a night five nights a week.. it's become a job as it is....

It's not costing me money in the "problem gambler" sense. I've cashed out a good amount this year, and haven't bought in since I got back from the dessert in september.

It's just that I'm too impatient to play at "real" limits... knowing it will take weeks and months to build my roll up to the proper levles, and just don't feel like waiting. Of course, this results in several weeks of work getting blown away when I do something stupid :/

PJ what games/levels/limits are you playing? What sort of BR are you looking for?

I believe in initially playing underrolled if you are
A) clearing a bonus
B) capable of playing at the level
C) can afford to lose the money (i.e you are working).

If you play NL Hold 'Em it should be easy to build a $1,000+ bankroll very quickly from say $200. Just sign up for sites which offer a 100% deposit bonus, buy into the .25/.50 for around $25 and play super tight whilst clearing the bonus. I know you may not be technically properly rolled, but you will do very well to lose 8 consecutive buy ins playing like that (I have done it about 5 times and never busted so it must be 100% safe ).

I expect you already have an account there but for example a Party sign in bonus of $100 can be cleared in a night or 2 when 2-3 tabling at .25/.50.

Never, ever play with out a bonus/rakeback and then you are earning maybe $5 an hour if you just break even.

I am playing underrolled (who knew, but i can always reload) and have lost 3 $25 buy ins in a row at .10/.25 NL on PS. I will ride it out...what else can I do?

Initial roll of about $250 (after paying for PT) is sitting at about $180. I need to play. When will the work day be over? I may have to play on lunch today...............Does this seem compulsive? yeah probably
